Imbolic is on Feburary 2nd of every year. It celebrates the coming of spring and represents new beginnings and spiritual growth. For northern America it marks the half over mark, winter is half over. This is also the day which we know as groundhog day, which began in Ireland with a hedgehog.
RITUAL
This is a ritual of melting.
Draw a symbol of spring in the snow, be it a fire, sun, flower or whatever means spring to you. Then ring the bells to symbolize the melting of ice and snow and say:
"The snow will melt and spring will come again."
Place the candle in the middle of the symbol and light it and say:
"Here in the snow, a spark of spring is growing."
Fill the bowl with snow and bring it inside, ringing your bells as you go. Leave the candle in the snow to burn out. Place the bowl on the table and let it melt as you eat your dinner. Once melted, gather around the bowl and say:
"The snow may lie deep," EVERYONE: "but the melting time will come." YOU: "The water may stand still in hard ice," EVERYONE: "but the time will come for it to flow."
Ring the bells one last time and use the water to water your plants, saying:
"See, it's true! Winter won't last forever. The sun is growing strong and bringing its warmth. The earth will soon grow green again."
