Coach
Daniel Thompson

Coach Thompson went to college at Murray State for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees.  He teaches a variety of math classes and is certified to teach math or business.  He started running at 24 and started out training for races for 10K up to the half-marathon and then progressed to marathon training.  After a couple of years of marathon training he was exposed to his first 50 miler (as a spectator/crew) and did that race the next year.  He has been doing ultramarathons since then (80+ races), running his first 100+ miler at about age 29.  He has raced multiple times at over 200 miles and done one race that was 6 days around a track, taking 2nd place with 420.5 miles.  His best time in the 5K is a modest 17:29 at age 42.  Not many people get their best time in their 40's!  This is his 4th year being back at Calloway after teaching three years from 1984-1987.  He coached the boys cross country team at Calloway during those three years in the 80's when they won the state AA championship (84) followed by a runner-up finish the next year (85).  He also coached the girls team in 86.  This is Coach Thompsons 2nd year to assist Coach Jared with both cross country and track.
