Chapter 4"I made a bet with AJ that he wouldn't be able to get with Kristen last night so I need you to find out if they did or didn't so I know if AJ is telling the truth," Nick said repeating himself."
"And AJ actually agreed to this bet?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't he? He could get laid and make a hundred bucks at the same time."
"Damn it Nick! Kristen is no hooker on the corner! She is his fucking fiance! What is wrong with you! Why in hell would you make a bet like that!" Toni yelled grabbing her car keys.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to AJ's to talk to Kristen and you are coming with me."
"Oh no you're not," Nick said taking the keys away from her. "Kristen isn't supposed to find out about it and I don't want you telling her."
"She's my best friend and if you made a bet like that towards me I sure as hell would want to know then I would never have sex with you again now give me my keys."
"So you're going to keep AJ from getting anything from her? And you're not getting the keys."
"What is sex just a hobby for you two or something? And I'll just take your prowler," Toni said grabbing his car keys and running out the door. Nick ran after her since he didn't want her taking his precious car and she was about ready to pull out down the driveway when he jumped in the passenger side of the car. "Oh so you decided to come with me after all?"
"Not really. You're just mad at me so I'm afraid what you'll do to my car."
"Oh really?" Toni asked sarcastically as she slammed on the gas. Nick grabbed his seat belt and put it on and made sure that it was secure since he didn't want to go flying through the window with the way Toni was driving.
"You know you can get a very large fine for speeding and reckless driving if you get pulled over by a cop."
"Yeah well, it's your car and I'm not registered under it so you would be paying the fine, not me." When they got to AJ's house Nick was relieved that him and his car were still in one piece and he hurried up and got out of the car just in case Toni decided to start it again. Toni grabbed Nick's arm and pulled him to the front door and rang the door bell.
"Hey what are you two doing here?" AJ asked answering the door as he looked directly at Nick.
"Oh just came to have a little chat. So did you have fun last night?" Toni asked walking into AJ's house and pulling Nick along with her. Nick gave AJ a worried look and he knew then that Nick told Toni about the bet. "So, AJ. Were you actually as stupid as Nick last night and agreed to go along with this bet?"
"Toni, don't get all worked up. It's not as bad as you think."
"How the hell do you figure! You two are getting married in three weeks and you know you could have sex with her at any time! Why would you make a bet to prove it!" Toni yelled at him. Kristen had gotten out of the shower and gotten dressed when she heard the yelling going on in the living room. She walked into the living room brushing her wet hair to see Toni yelling at Nick and AJ.
"Did I miss something?" Kristen asked.
"Did AJ tell you the bet these two made about you last night?"
"No, what was it?" Kristen asked looking at AJ and then back to Toni.
"Well..."
"Toni please, it was stupid. Don't say anything," AJ begged interrupting her.
"Shut up McLean. Nick bet AJ a hundred bucks last night that he couldn't get with you and AJ actually agreed to it." Kristen looked at AJ who was shaking his head and then she became completely confused about if AJ had agreed to the bet with Nick then why he didn't go through with it and have sex with her when he had the chance. She just stood there in silence thinking while Toni did all of the yelling.
"So who owes who the hundred bucks? I'm hoping one of you was actually smart about this," she said looking at AJ.
"I owe him. I wouldn't have sex with her last night," AJ said looking Kristen in the eyes but still she didn't say something.
"My God! At least someone has some sense even though you were both stupid enough to make the bet!" Toni continued to yell at the two of them when Kristen heard the door bell ring so she went to answer it. She opened the door to see her parents, her three sisters, Deena, Julie, and Michelle, and her niece, Angel. They all gave her a weird look since they could hear all the yelling going on. Kristen didn't know what to say or do since she was still thinking about the stupid bet so she just shut the door in their faces and walked away. She went into her and AJ's room and flopped down on the bed on her stomach and closed her eyes trying to figure out if she was seeing things or not when she had opened the front door. AJ had seen her open the door and close it again without saying anything and leave to the room.
"Will you shut up for a minute?" AJ asked Toni and Nick who were now arguing back and forth. They shut up and AJ went and answered the door to see Kristen's family on the other side. "Um...hi," AJ said shocked to see them standing at his front door.
"Do you plan on letting us in?" Kristen's dad asked.
"Oh yeah, sorry. Come on in," AJ said holding the door open for them. They walked in the house and Toni and Nick just stared at them.
"Toni!" Angel yelled running up to her and giving her a hug.
"Hey girl," Toni said picking her up.
"Is Nick your boyfriend?" Angel asked Toni since she immediately recognized who Nick was.
"Yes, for the time being he is," Toni said smiling at Nick. "Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Yeah."
"Who?"
"Howie," Angel said softly with a smile.
"Great, I wonder if Howie knows he's dating a four year old," Nick said and Toni slapped him upside the head.
"I'm six!" Angel yelled at him.
"Okay, Toni, Nick, show them around or whatever just stay out of my room and I'll be right back," AJ said leaving towards his room. He opened the door and closed it behind him and saw Kristen laying on the bed. "You okay?" AJ asked as he sat down on the bed next to her and put his hand up the back of her shirt and started rubbing her back.
"Please tell me that I was imagining things and my parents weren't there when I opened the door," Kristen said with her eyes still closed.
"Sorry hun, I can't. They are in the living room."
"Uh!" Kristen said turning over as AJ pulled his hand out from underneath her shirt.
"Are you mad at me about the bet?"
"No, I'm not. You made your decision last night about whether you wanted to go through with the bet or not and you made the right one. Now if we had had sex last night I would never speak to you again. Just never make a bet like that again okay?"
"I promise I won't," AJ said kissing her. "Sorry if I seemed a little weird about it all last night. I just didn't want to hurt you or tell you about the bet so I didn't say anything. Now come on. Nick and Toni are entertaining your family right now and that can't be a good thing considering they were yelling at each other two minutes ago."
"Do I have to?"
"Yes, you do," AJ said getting off the bed and grabbing Kristen's hands and pulling her up. They walked into the living room and when Angel saw Kristen she jumped out of Toni's arms and ran up to Kristen and wrapped her arms around her waist giving her a hug. Toni knew that this wasn't exactly the time for her, Nick, or any of Kristen's sisters to be there.
"Julie do you mind if me and Nick take Angel to the park for a little bit?" Toni asked.
"No, go ahead. Just if you lose her you've had it."
"Okay then," Toni said not wanting to get an attitude back. "Come on, Angel, me and Nick are taking you to the park." Angel let go of Kristen and grabbed Toni's hand as her and Nick walked out the door.
"Come on," Michelle said to Deena and Julie. "Mom and Dad need to talk with them so let's go find a mall or something." The three of them got up and left taking the rental car they got at the airport. Kristen and AJ sat down across from her parents.
"Why are you guys here?" Kristen asked breaking the silence. "I thought you didn't approve of me and AJ being together."
"I didn't," Kristen's mom said. "But then I realized after what you said to me on the phone before you hung up, that I was being selfish."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, I just hated the fact that I was seeing my youngest baby grow up and get married before her sisters."
"Mom, that's just the thing, I'm not a baby anymore. I'm twenty years old."
"I know, and I'm apologizing. AJ, I know you've watched out and taken care of my daughter and I'm sorry for putting you down. I want my daughter with someone like you," Kristen's mom said looking at AJ.
"Thank you, Mrs. Bonnell."
"Cindy, you're going to be part of the family so call me by my first name. And I want you two to come visit us after you are married. But I do not want you having sex in my house. This is the last time I will tell you two that or I will disown both of you."
"We promise we won't," Kristen said.
"And if you do I won't miss next time with my gun," Kristen's dad said. The smile on AJ's face went straight.
"Dad!" Kristen yelled.
"Mike don't be saying that!" Cindy yelled as she hit him in the arm. "We're going to be here until the day after your wedding, if you want us to stay in a hotel we will."
"No, you can stay here," AJ said. "We have three extra bedrooms so we have plenty of room."
"Thanks. I'm going to help you two out with this wedding as much as I can."
"Thank you," Kristen said as she got up and hugged her parents.
