Da Party

I woke up to the sound of the radio playing an all too familiar song, I Want It That Way, by some group I forgot the name of at this moment. I’m not a music fan, and I hardly ever listen to the radio, so how should I know? All I know is that books are my thing, I live for books.

It was the day of the party! Everyone was to come over around 3 o’clock. It was 2:30 now. Kayla was still in the shower and I was already outside relaxing in the chairs. Just then, Roger came up to me.

“Hey Zoey, you know where I can find the meat to cook for today?”

“Yeah, it’s in our freezer in the basement, I’ll show you the way.” So we walked into the house and I showed him where the food was. All the food!

“While I bring up these heavy packages of meat, I think you should bring up the rest of your food to get ready.”

“That’s a smart idea Roger.” It took us ten trips each to bring everything up to the kitchen. The kitchen let me remind you, is 20 by 20 feet, white marble counter tops, white cabinets, and white tile floor. Almost all of the counter, which is huge, and the 4 seated table where full of stuff ranging from cheesy poofs, to thick stakes, to wine coolers.

“It looks like you have your hands full. How about I send over Sandy to help you out?”

“Oh if you could be so kind! You can have the kids come over to if they want.”

“Okay, sure.” Roger left and 5 minutes later Sandy came back with some wild and crazy kids that went running all over the house. As Sandy and I started separating the huge quantity of food, Kayla came down.

“Good, you guys figured to start without me because I’m so slow. Thank you!”

“No problem Kayla! Glad to help. Zoey why don’t you go watch the kids so they don’t brake anything and Kayla will finish for you.”

“Okay sure.” Why argue? Playing with kids is more fun then designing different ways to stack cheese. I bent down next to Greg who was sitting down with his brother and sister. “So Greg, what you guys watching? Something not your level?”

“Nope, the Disney channel.”

“How about we all go outside and toss the ball around?”

“Okay, cool!” I picked up Randy and Teresa and Gregory followed me to the driveway. Hey when I said I was shy, I never said I wasn’t good with children. I took a tennis ball out of the garage.

“Teresa, you wanna play?”

“No, thank you.” She answered quietly.

“Could you please sit in the grass and watch Randy for me then?” She walked her brother over to the grass and sat him in her lap. I played with Greg for about 20 minutes until a 10 year old boy named Ted took my place. I met all the grown-ups that came to the party but of course I stuck around the front yard and watch the younger ones. Nathan joined me along with a few other teenagers that lived on the block, but honestly I was having more fun playing with the younger ones.

The food was great. What can I say? I bought all the stuff! Everyone else thought we through a great party and they all had fun. I met the people but I didn’t have as much fun as I wish I did. I don’t know what the feeling was for, but I felt like something main was missing throughout the day.
