Why Me?

July 25, 1995

Cassandra ran up the stairs with tears brimming from her eyes. Slamming the door shut she slid down the wall. Screaming was still coming from the room she previous was in, the kitchen. Things were heard being thrown and broken. Her father was an abusive drunk but only to her, not her mother and her mother cares little for her. They never trusted Cassandra and just screamed at her for having the TV too loud.

As Cassandra just sat there with her head in her hands silently weeping her second floor window was pushed open. A dark blonde that stood about 5’9” lightly landed on her floor after climbing through the window. The boy bent down and hugged his crying friend.

“Cass, what did they do to you?”

“Trevor, they will never get off my back! They jump on me about everything! Why is everything I do, wrong to them?”

“Cass, Cass you aren’t the problem. You do nothing bad, You have to remember that.”

“But why do they ALLWAYS YELL?”

“They have parental problems. Did your dad hit you this time?”

“No. Get me out of here will you please?”

“It’s 9:30 at night. It’s dark outside…”

“Please?”

“Come on let’s go next door. You can sleep in my basement tonight.” Trevor helped his best friend climb down the side latter and slip into his house.
