8. Gulliver was travelling with a sack of lettuce, a fox, and a rabbit. While passsing through the woods, they came to a small river that was too fast and too deep to cross on foot. Gulliver found a log that was just large enough to allow himself and the lettuce, or himself and one of the two animals, to cross at one time. The problem was that if he took the lettuce across, the fox would eat the rabbit, and if he took the fox across, the rabbit would eat the lettuce. Using just the log, how can Gulliver safely transport the rabbit, the fox and the lettuce across the river?

7. The music stopped and the crowd in the tent watched as the blindfolded man fell to his death. The man was murdered. How did it happen?

6. It was a warm, rainy day. At 9:30 a.m., Sid Shady left his idling car facing the 'Rolling Donut Shop' and walked down the hill to 'Al's Garage'. Shady complained to Al that his car had been acting strange lately. At 10:00 a.m., Shady's driverless car rolled down the hill, went through the 'Rolling Donut Shop' window, and killed none other than Mrs. Shady. The puddle of water on the floor of the driver's side convinced Shadow to suspect Shady of foul play (other than that his name is Shady... and well... you know). Since Shady did not use any mechanical device, how could he have committed the crime when he wasn't near the car?

5. Harold Bird married a widow. At that time they each had children of their won. Thirteen years later the Bird kids got into a heated argument. Mrs. Bird exclaimed to Mr. Bird, "Your children and my children are fighting with our children!" Each parent is directly related to nine of the 12 children in the Bird family. How many children were born after Mr. and Mrs. Bird were married? (oh, this is too easy)

4. When on vacation in Europe, Shadow was touring some of the ancient castles. The tour went up a long flight of stairs, until they came upon a huge wooden door. The guide pulled the door open and shone a light inside. There was a long shaft with four walls ending some 40 meters below. The guide explained that this room had served as a disposal system for those who were out of favour with the castle lord. As the group made their way back down the stairs, they heard a loud scream and a thud. Shadow and the guide ran back to find a suicide note pinned to the large wooden door. They swung the door open and shone a light down the shaft. A woman from the tour lay dead at the bottom. "This was no suicide," declared Shadow, "this was murder." How could he be so certain? (I think they worded it all wrong... so I bet no one will get this one... I mean, like anybody got any of the other ones)

3. Dee Septor, the famous magician, turned to Hardy Pyles and said he would perform his latest trick by turning water into wine. He went to the fridge, pulled out a tray of ice and filled a wine glass with the culbes. As an afterthought, he took one of the ice cubes from the glass for Hardy to taste. He then put a velvet box over the glass as Hardy crunched the cube, satisfying himself it was frozenm water. Dee Septor claimed he had to concentrate on the glass to perform this feat. Later, Dee lifted the box and Hardy drank the contents of the glass. Sure enough it was wine. How did he do it?

2. Shadow answered a call from the local university women's residence, regarding a suspected prowler. Accompanied by the Head Mistress (te he he... get it... Head Mistress... oh nevermind...), Shadow inspected every room in the residence. Concluding his inspection on the third floor, Shadow surmised that the suspect was probably on that floor and probably a friend of the girl in 3b. A few minutes later another officer found the intruder and confirmed Shadow's suspicion. What clue led Shadow to suspect the intruder to be on the third floor and quite likely a guest?

1. Captain Frank went to the hardware store to make a purchase for his house. He asked the clerk, "How much will one cost?" The clerk thought for a moment and said, "Three dollars." Captain Frank, wh looked a little puzzled said, "Well then, how much will twelve cost?" "Six dollars," replied the clerk. Captain Frank scratched his head and said, "If I were to purchase two hundred, how much would that cost?" "That," said the clerk, "will cost you nine dollars." What was Captain Frank buying?
