Redman signs 3-year deal with Baltimore
July 25, 2000
Former University of Louisville record-setting quarterback Chris Redman promised his new team, the Baltimore Ravens that he wouldn't miss a minute of practice when the team opened its camp. With Redman unsigned and the Ravens camp scheduled to open on the 24th of July, it appeared that the third-round draft pick might not deliver his promise, but some last minute work between Redman's agent David Dunn and the Baltimore front office, the rookie quarterback agreed to terms and signed his contract minutes prior to camp opening. Then as promised, Redman suited up and made his way out onto the practice fields of Western Maryland College.
Baltimore head coach Brian Billick was impressed with the attitude that Redman displayed during contract negotiations.
"I'm heartened by that sequence," Billick told the Baltimore Sun. "Chris Redman basically told his people, 'I'm not missing a practice. Do what you've got to do, I'm not missing a practice.'
"There's some other people that could learn from that."
Redman's contract is worth $1.291 million over the next three seasons. He also received a $465,000 signing bonus. His contract includes numerous incentives based on performance.
