Conference USA v. Big 12 to square off in the GalleryFurniture.com Bowl
Friday afternoon, bowl officials for the new GalleryFurniture.com Bowl in Houston announced that Conference USA and the Big 12 Conference will face each other beginning in 2000.
The newly certified bowl game, scheduled for December 27, 2000, will be held at the Houston AstroDome. The game which is expected to be broadcast on ESPN with an 8:00pm (ET) kickoff.
The game was officially approved by the NCAA's certification committee this week. They also approved Silicon Valley Classic Bowl being held in San Jose, Calif.
The expected payout per team is $750,000. The game will move to the new NFL stadium currently under construction in Houston beginning 2002.
With the new agreement to the GalleryFurniture.com Bowl, C-USA now has ties with three bowls. The C-USA Champion participates in the Liberty Bowl, while another representative plays in the Mobile Alabama Bowl. Southern Miss, Louisville and East Carolina represented C-USA this past bowl season.
C-USA is also in negotiations with the Humantarian Bowl which it has been apart of the past three seasons.
