Cowboys sign kicker Jon Hilbert
Six-year Cardinals kicker Jon Hilbert agreed to terms as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys on Monday.
Hilbert, who was granted an additional sixth-year of eligibility by the NCAA in 1999, left Louisville holding the school’s all-time mark for extra points in a season. Hilbert connected on 50 of 53 attempts during the 1998 campaign and finished his career converting 114 of 121 tries. He also converted on 66% of his field goals attempts, his longest being 51-yards. More importantly, he improved his accuracy to 86% (19-22) when attempting a field goal of 40-yards or less.
Cowboys kicking coach Steve Hoffman will have quite a competition for the place-kicking duties this summer as he has four kickers now on the roster. The Cowboys also signed a free agent contract with South Carolina State's Cedric Oglesby.
Once he has passed a physical, he will be able to work with the team during the club's mini-camp on April 28-30.
