Football captains chosen for the 2000 season
University of Louisville head coach John L. Smith announced the team captains for the 2000 campaign on Tuesday. Seniors Rashad Harris, Donovan Arp, Arnold Jackson and Jason Padgett were chosen by their teammates prior to Saturday’s Red-White scrimmage. All four are returning starters from last season’s 7-5 squad that fell to Boise State in the Humanitarian Bowl.
Harris, a three-year starter at linebacker, was also a team captain for the 1999 season. Harris finished last season with 96 tackles, good for third on the team. He also recorded five sacks.
Arp, a junior college transfer a year ago, made an immediate impact on the defensive line. He finished last season leading the team with 16 tackles for a loss and tied Michael Josiah for team lead with seven sacks. Arp suffered a ruptured left Achilles' tendon during one of the final practices of spring, but hopes to return in time for the fall session.
Jackson finished last season with an impressive 101 receptions, averaging over 109-yards a game. He all ready holds the Louisville record for most career receptions and is just 63 catches short of breaking the NCAA 1-A mark.
Padgett is one of three returning starters on the Cardinal offensive line this season. He, also a junior college transfer a year ago, started all 12 games for the Cards last season
