"Wha-oh!!" He awoke with a start and turned his body over to the face the person who had woken him. He rubbed his eyes as he thought he saw Aurora. When his vision became cleared he saw that it was Aurora standing next to his bed in a beautiful night-gown and looking like an angel.
"AJ" She whispered and sounded much like a child
seeking the comfort of a mother. "I-I had a bad dream
and just don't feel safe in my room. I was wondering,
if you don't mind, if maybe I could sleep in here?"
"Yeah, sure. Come on" He said as he held the blankets open for her. Gingerly, Aurora climbed in and sat next to him.
"AJ, are you sure it's okay?"
"Of course. We're in it this together. Don't worry" All he wanted was to comfort her, so he held open his arms hoping she would come to him. She welcomed this act and crawled into AJ's arms snuggling against his bare chest while his arms closed around her and they leaned back on the bed. AJ sighed and rubbed her back a bit,
"Do you want to tell me about your dream?" She hesitated.
"I was running through the woods...trying to get
away from someone, but I wasn't sure who. Then I tripped
and fell. Three knights dressed in black armor
found me. One held me while the other....the other pulled out a sword and
slit my throat. Then I woke up" She was near tears.
"Shhh. Don't worry. It was only a dream. I wouldn't let anyone harm you in anyway."
"But it was so real"
"Shh." said AJ as he now stroked her hair.
"AJ?"
"Yes?"
"Are you wearing anything?" she asked giggling. Smirking, he replied,
"Boxers. Don't worry."
"Just checking!" She said before quieting down
and finally falling back asleep. AJ opened his eyes the
next morning when the sunlight filtered through
the windows. He at first didn't remember where he was. But as the events
of last night came flooding back to him, he smiled. He looked down at Aurora
who slept still, in his arms. He savored it for a moment, but then softly
shook her calling her name. Aurora's eyes fluttered open and she yawned.
"Did you sleep well?"
"Yes thank you"
"You better get back to your room before we're noticed." AJ regretfully said. He wanted to hold her in his arms forever. It was weird how he hated this girl so much, yet he still liked her so much. He decided not to ponder on the subject though.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." Aurora got out of the bed still sleepy eyed. She gave AJ a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you." He smiled,
"No prob Bob! Anytime."
"I'll see you at breakfast then?"
"I gotta eat, don't I?" She laughed and slipped
out of the room to go to her own. AJ shook his head still smiling. There
was something about her now, that he hadn't seen earlier. She had such
a natural glow to her. Then his thoughts traveled down a different path.
She's still snobby and still a brat though. He sighed. Women are
so difficult!
