Chapter 6- The Perfect Guy

The next couple of weeks were busy on the N'Sync tour. Every day was the same thing; wake up, meeting, rehearsal and soundcheck, interview with some really annoying woman, dinner, meet and greet, concert. The next day, same thing.

Since the guys were so busy, McKennah barely saw Justin any more. He was so tired that he would crawl on the bus after the shows, kiss his mom and brother good-night, wave a grunted good-night to her and crawl into his bunk and be asleep before he laid down.

McKennah knew it wasn't on purpose but that night on the bus had made things kinda awkward between them, they were slowly beginning to get over it though.

One Wednesday, they finally had a day off and were now in Las Vegas, Nevada, where there would be two nights of concerts before flying to Texas. McKennah took Jon out for the day to a mall. Her and Jon had been assigned a bodyguard for the both of them, his name was Rodney and he was pretty cool for a guy that was a big as a billboard and followed like two feet in back of them. McKennah held Jon's hand tightly as they entered the crowded mall. For a Wednesday, it was awfully busy. Rodney walked beside McKennah, "We've got to be back by 5, at least."

She nodded, "We won't be here long, I promise Rod."

He nodded, "Okay.."

"So Jon, where to first?"

"Toy store!"

She smiled, "Ok, your mom said you could have one toy, so we'll have to make it a good one."

He nodded, "I will, don't worry."

Rodney and McKennah stood by as Jon ran from aisle to aisle looking for the 'perfect' toy. He held up an action figure, "Rodney, what about this? Will Justin like this??"

"I think he will Jon, do you like it? It is your toy, after all."

Jon nodded his head vigoursly, "I think..this is IT."

McKennah smiled, "Give it to me, and we'll go buy it and head back so you can show Justin and your mom."

"ok!"

Justin was staring at himself in the mirror as he fixed his shirt. He had a date. And not just a date. But a date with one of his best friends. He smiled as he finally granted himself that he looked fine. He heard the knock on the door and opened it to see his mom and Jon standing there. "Hi Justin!"

"Hey little man! Hi mom."

She kissed her son and then paused to wipe her lipstick off his face, "Hi Justin..Jon just got back with McKennah and Rodney and just had to come show you his toy."

"Cool...so..she's back?"

Lynn nodded, "Yep..are you ready?"

"Just about..what'd you tell her?"

Jon ran in and jumped on the bed, "Juuustin! Come see my new toy!"

"Hold on just a second Jon!"

Lynn smiled, "I told her that there was a dinner at 7 and that it was kinda dressy, I found a black dress in the closet that she brought, so I suggested that. I told her that you would be there a quarter till six to get her...and she agreed."

Justin smiled, "Thanks mom."

"No problem..now, go see your brother's toy."

Justin paused in front McKennah's door and looked down at himself. He sighed, almost nervously, and knocked. McKennah swung it open, "I just dumped my purse on the floor, come on in.."

She bent down by the bed and began picking up things and then stood up and put them back into her purse. She then saw him. Her jaw almost dropped to the floor, "Ummm..wow..you look..good Justin."

He smiled, "Thanks. So do you."

"Thanks..your mom picked it out, believe it or not."

"I believe it. You ready?"

She nodded and slipped into her shoes, "Yeah..where are we going?"

"You and me, dinner."

"I thought it was a dinner meeting?," She asked as they entered the elevator.

"I lied. It seemed a good excuse to get you out."

"So..this is...a date?"

He shrugged as they exited the elevator, Rodney and Justin's bodyguard, Sam, caught up with them. "Think of it as what you wish."

"Justin!"

He smiled as her jaw finally did drop at the sight of the black stretch limo waiting for them. The driver held the door open and they both climbed in. The two bodyguards rode behind them in another car. "Justin..I cannot believe you."

He smiled, "I had to go all out."

"This is...just...wow."

"Kennah..this is nothing."

"Well to me it is..I can't believe you!"

They arrived at the restaurant. The driver held the door open again and Rodney and Sam were waiting. Justin stepped out first and McKennah was acutely aware of the flashes that went off. He reached his hand down and she grasped it tightly as he helped her out. The flashes grew greater as they made their way into the exclusive restaurant.

Once they were seated in a quiet corner, McKennah let her guard down. "I must say J, I've never been through that."

"I'm sorry Kennah."

"It's ok..I guess I have to kinda get used to that if I'm going to come on tour with you all.."

He smiled, "Order anything you want, my treat."

"I leave the tip."

"McKennah."

"Nope, I leave the tip."

He sighed, "Fine, whatever."

"Where's Rodney and Sam?"

"Over there..probably talking to Lonnie.."

She smiled, "Rodney's cool. Although, I don't really understand why I need a bodyguard."

"Well..Jon's here and I know someone someday is going to recognize him and try to get to him. I want him as sheilded as possible. And I knew someday you'd be in the tabloids or they'd see me with you or something and I knew you needed security as well. Rodney was hired and there you go."

"I still don't get it J..no one's going to hassle me.," She said smiling.

He grinned and leaned in, "I feel better knowing someone's watching over you. K?"

"Ok."

They decided to walk down the strip, back to the hotel, since it wasn't that far of a walk from the restaurant. "Soo..what now?"

"I don't know.."

"Was this a date J?"

"I...I don't know McKennah."

"Well..neither do I."

He smiled as they entered the elevator at the hotel. "I don't know what to call it McKennah. I just know that I liked it. I hope you did too."

"I did Justin..I just..I guess I just don't get it..why me?"

They stopped by her door and he waited while she unlocked the door and pushed it open slightly. "Why not you Kennah? Maybe I just finally came to a realization."

Justin then leaned down and placed a gentle, tender kiss on her cheek. He pulled back, smiled and pushed a strand of her hair from her face, "Night Kennah."

He was gone in a second. McKennah was more confused that ever.
