McKennah Fowler was driving towards the house, if you could call it that, that she shared with her best friend. The house wasn't your typical two-story, 4 bedroom, 2 and a half bath house. This was a mansion. There was even a gate around the estate.
The 'house' was lived in by two people. McKennah being one, her best friend Justin being the other. Now, how could two college age people afford a house in such a ritzy part of Florida? Justin wasn't just any normal guy, he was a member of the pop-group N'Sync and he had enough money to where he could buy a house and invite his best (girl) friend to come live with him.
McKennah still couldn't believe she lived here, as she drove into the driveway, watching the gates close behind her in the rearview mirror. The place was HUGE. The house itself was white and a pale, pale peach color. McKennah playfully teased Justin that it was the "White House of Orlando".
She parked and got out, pulling her backpack from the backseat and going inside. The house was empty and McKennah's smile almost immediately dropped from her face.
Her and Justin had known each other ever since MMC had ended and Justin went to a public school. McKennah had just moved to Orlando the month before Justin came and was pretty much a loner. No one wanted to befriend the 'new girl' so McKennah kept to herself. But once Justin came, all that changed. He had taken the seat next to her and was quiet for all of two seconds before he began grilling her with questions. "How old are you?," He asked as he prepared to do the day's math exercise.
"12. You?"
"Me too! Where are you from?"
"Ohio. You?"
"I live here now but I'm originally from Tennessee. What's your name?"
"Why do you keep asking me questions?," She had finally asked.
Justin almost looked hurt, "I was just tryin' to get to know the person I'll have to sit by for the rest of the year."
She sighed, "I'm sorry..I'm new and nobody's ever really talked to me. I'm McKennah."
"Well hello McKennah, I'm Justin."
"So you're new?"
"Well..yeah..kinda."
"Ohhh..."
"How come you moved here?," He had asked as he bit his lip trying to do the math problem he was on.
"My grandmother lives here and me and my mom came here to live with her."
"Don't you have a dad?"
She had nodded, "Yep..but he's back in Ohio..my parents are divorced."
"Mine are too!"
McKennah smiled at the memory, they had alot in common, and that was scary.
She threw her backpack on the couch and went upstairs to change into shorts and a t-shirt. Her answering machine button was blinking so she pressed it before going to find some clothes to change into. "Hey Kennah, it's me. Just callin' to tell you that I should be home by 8 or so tonight. I'll call ya when I get in, k? Talk to you later, bye.," Justin's voice said.
McKennah shrieked in excitement; he was finally coming home after being on tour! She changed into her comfy clothes and went back downstairs, it was now 5:30, she had been at the school library since 3. She went into the kitchen to make sure they actually had food...which they didn't. McKennah groaned, she really didn't feel like going out buuut...she had too or Justin would probably make her go along with him at like 3 o'clock in the morning or something weird.
She was at the store when her cell phone rang and she had to juggle things a bit so she could have a hand free to talk, "Hello?"
"Hey you! Where you at?"
"The store..where you at boy?," She asked smiling that it was Justin.
"I am in Jacksonville, I do believe."
"Are you driving?"
"Yea, me and Chris are."
"Ohhh..cool.."
"You gettin' groceries?"
"Yep..we were out."
"Coool...I'll be home in a few hours, k?"
"Ok..I'll leave the light on for ya J!"
He laughed, "Sounds good, see ya then."
"K, bye Justin."
"Bye Kennah."
She hung up and went down another aisle.
Justin closed the door to the passenger side of Chris' car and grinned, "I'll call you later this week, ok?"
"Will do, see ya Justin!"
"Bye Chris!"
He watched as Chris backed down the driveway and was soon out of sight. He walked up to the door and opened it and stepped inside. He could smell something cooking and he smiled; it was so good to be in his own home and be able to actually sleep in his own bed. "Justin?"
"Yep.."
She appeared in the doorway of the kitchen and grinned, "Oh my Lord!"
He dropped his bags and laughed as she launched herself into his arms, "I have missed you sooo much!"
"I missed you too McKennah."
"Have you eaten? Oh, I hope you haven't..I was making some dinner but if you're not hungry, then you can just suffer and I'll eat."
He smiled and followed her into the kitchen, "I'm not hungry and I'll always eat wahtever you cook Kennah."
"Sit down, sit down, come tell me all about the tour. DId you have fun?"
He nodded and got comfortable on the bar-stool, "Yeah, it was cool. I just wish we had a longer break this time around."
"How long you home for?"
"Three weeks."
"Well that's cool."
He grinned, "So how are you my beautiful Kennah?"
She stuck her tongue out at him playfully before turning to stir whatever was on the stove, "I am good Timbs."
"How's school?"
"Hard as hell."
"But you enjoy it."
"I enjoy my English and History classes, that is all. I hate Calculus and I hate Chemistry."
He sighed, "I wish I could go back to school.."
"Then while you're home you can do my homework."
"Umm..no thanks."
He studied her while she finished cooking dinner. She was the same ole' McKennah, tall and slim, dark brown wavy hair that anyone would kill for and her eyes...God, Justin loved her eyes. They were blue-gray (depending on her mood) and if a person looked enough into them, they could see everything she was feeling. "Have you lost weight?," He asked.
"No. Have you?"
"No, I don't think so. You just look...thinner."
"Are you checkin' me out J?"
He grinned, "Of course, you and that ass baby!"
"Justin!"
He laughed, "I'm just kidding Kennah. So...what we havin' for dinner?"
After they both ate and McKennah helped him unpack, they crashed in his room on his bed, talking. McKennah was on her stomach at the foot of his bed and he was beside her. She yawned and rolled over onto her back, "I'm glad you're home Just."
"Me too..I was SO ready for a break."
"I bet."
"I did miss you McKennah."
"I missed you too Justin..," She said mid-yawn.
He sighed and laid his head on his arm, "You got class in the morning?"
She shook her head, "Nope."
"Wanna head to the beach?"
"Sure."
He smiled, "Cool.."
It was quiet for a few minutes and Justin was about to say something when he realize McKennah had fallen asleep, her head lying in the middle of his back. He rolled off the bed slowly and moved her so she was now at the head of the bed and put her under the covers. He then crawled under the covers himself and flipped off the light.
