AJ was sitting in the studio, sounds floating from the soundboard echoing through the small room. His head bobbed in time with the beat, his fingers tapping lightly on the soundboard. His mouth moved in time a little with the words. He was off in his own little world, trying to decide if he liked where one part was or if he wanted it in another spot. Nick and him were working on a song that they hoped would be on the next BSB album, it was almost done but something seemed to be missing. They had missed lunch about two hours ago so Nick went to run to a nearby fast food place and left AJ to work on the song.
He heard the door open but didn't acknowledge whoeever it was, he figured it was Nick coming back with their food. He jumped about a foot in the air when a hand settled on his shoulder, he spun around to see Madalyn standing there, Colin cradled in her arms. AJ turned off the music, and got up, "Hey, what are you doing here?"
"Your mom called, she had to run to a meeting and I couldn't get totally off work...could you take him possibly till like 4, at the latest?"
"Sure, no problem..is he okay?"
She smiled and brushed Colin's hair back, "Yea, he's just tired.."
"Yeah, that's fine, me and Nick are going to be working on this song though..I don't know if that'll keep him entertained or not.."
"Colin, you wanna stay here with AJ and Nick till I get off work?"
He nodded against her shoulder, "I guess so."
"Okay.," She said setting him down on the couch behind AJ.
AJ smiled at her, "He'll be fine."
"Are you sure you don't mind?"
"Not at all.."
Madalyn finally smiled, "Thank you so much..I'll fix dinner tonight, to make up for it.."
"You don't have to."
"I know, but I want to.."
"Don't you have to get back to work?," He asked teasingly.
Madalyn looked at her watch, "Yeah, I do! Okay, Colin, you be good and do whatever AJ tells you to, ok?"
Colin nodded, "I will mommy."
"Good, I'll be back later then..thanks J!"
"Not a problem."
Madalyn left to head back to work. Colin crawled up in AJ's lap as he fiddled with the buttons on the soundboard. "What's that one do?"
"That makes the voices sound funny.."
"Ohhhh..."
"Wanna see what Nick sounds like when we do it?"
Colin smiled, "Yeah!"
They continued to play around with the buttons until Nick came back with the food for him and AJ.
Madalyn entered the house, wanting nothing more than to just crawl upstairs and run a warm bubble bath and relax the day's worries away. But, she did have a son and she promised to cook dinner that night for both Colin and AJ. She looked at the clock on the wall, it was well past 4...in fact it was 6:35.
AJ poked his head around the corner, "There you are, do you know you don't have your cell on?"
She nodded, throwing her shoes up the steps, "Yep, I know...I turned it off because every two seconds someone was calling me.."
"Did you have a rough day?"
She nodded, "You have no idea.."
He smiled and grabbed her hand, "Come on, I fixed me and Colin dinner, he's upstairs finishing his homework. I saved some for you.."
"I said I'd cook for you two.."
"I know, I know, but he was gettin' hungry so I searched through the freezer and found us some food.."
She sat down at the table, "This is awfully nice of you.."
He smiled, "I know."
"Smartass.."
"I know that too.."
He watched as she finished reading Colin the book they had been reading for well over a week now and tucked him into his bed snugly and kissed his forehead gently, then exited the room quietly. She almost ran into him and smiled up at him, "What are you doin'?"
"Waitin' for you."
"What for?"
AJ, once again, took her hand and led her down the hall to his room and into his huge bathroom. There were candles everywhere and the jacuzzi/bathtub was filled with water and bubbles. "This is for you...I thought you'd need it.."
"AJ..."
"What? I figured it'd be a nice gesture.."
She smiled and turned to hug him, "It's very nice..thank you..."
"You just looked stressed and well...I know women like bubble baths soooo I thought I'd give ya one.."
"Thank you.."
He kissed her forehead and then pulled away, "There's towels over there and a robe on the other side of the door for whenever you finish, ok?"
"Okay..."
"Take as long as you need.."
"AJ?"
He turned back around, as he was just about to leave, "Yeah?"
"What'd I do to deserve someone like you?"
He shrugged, "Don't know...what'd I do to deserve such a beautiful person like you?"
Madalyn blushed, "Romeo."
"True.."
"Ok then, get out."
"Yes ma'am."
He closed the door behind him and went downstairs to find something to watch on tv.
Madalyn undressed and crawled into the warm water. Her muscles relaxed and her eyes drifted closed. This was exactly what she needed.
AJ glanced up as he heard someone come down the stairs into the basement. Madalyn came in, dressed in her pj's looking refreshed and relaxed. He smiled as she sat down next to him at his own little soundboard. "Have a nice bath?," He asked.
"Very nice..thanks."
"Not a problem."
She leaned into him a little more, "Sooo...whatcha doing?"
"Workin' on this song me and Nick have been trying to finish forever.."
"Well..what's wrong with it?"
"I don't know..just..it doesn't sound right or something...I'm picky, but usually not this picky."
"Well..play it for me.."
"Ok.."
He pressed play and a melody flowed softly from the speakers that surrounded them. AJ's head, once more began to bob in time with the beat a little. She smiled, he had all these little habits that she had just come to notice..it was so cute.
The song ended and Madalyn shrugged, "Sounded fine to me...but then again, you're the musician."
He smiled, "I don't know...I'll have to get Howie or one of the other guys to listen to it later this week or something...I'm gonna head for bed...you comin'?"
"Yeah.."
They walked up the stairs together and were about to part for their seperate rooms when AJ remembered something, "Colin's going with Trevor tomorrow right?"
Madalyn nodded, "Yeah.."
"Want me to hang around till he gets here?"
"No..I'll be fine AJ."
"You sure?"
She smiled, "Yeah..I'll be fine, really..I promise."
"Ok..then I guess this is goodnight.."
"Guess so."
He kissed her gently yet quickly, said goodnight once more and went to his room. Madalyn checked on Colin one last time before heading to her own room. AJ was a confusing person....he truely, truely was.
