Madalyn paced nervously around the living room, glancing at the clock every few seconds, although it felt as if it had been more than five minutes since she had last looked at it.
She was waiting for Trevor to show up to take Colin for the day. She really wished she had taken AJ up on his offer for him to stay with her until he showed up. But, she couldn't (and wouldn't) let AJ stick up for her all the time. She was, at one time, a strong and independent woman. But ever since she had had Colin and was with Trevor, she had become dependent on other people. Well, she decided, that was going to change.
She wasn't really nervous about letting Colin go with his father, she was more nervous about having to face him herself. The doorbell rang and she jumped about three feet, then put a hand to her racing heart. There was nothing to be afraid of..there was nothing to be afraid.
Madalyn walked to the door, trying to keep her cool because if Trevor sensed her fear and anxiousness; he'd take it all in.
She opened the door and came face to face with him. She forced a smile on her face, "Hi Trevor."
He merely nodded, "Hi."
He then practically pushed her over and stood at the bottom of the stairs, "He ready?"
"Should be...Colin! Your dad's here!"
Colin ran down the stairs and practically jumped onto his dad, "Hi daddy!"
Madalyn wasn't really surprised when Trevor tensed up and barely made a move to acknowledge Colin, bur that did kind of hurt.
Colin acted as if he didn't noticed the cold way his father treated him but smiled up at his mother, "Can I go now mommy?"
"Sure can, can I get a hug first?"
"Course!," He said hugging her tightly, "I love you mommy."
"I love you too sweetheart, you be good for your dad, ok?"
"I will!"
"Ok, have fun."
"Ok! Bye mommy!"
Colin bounced happily out the door and Trevor turned to her, "What time should I have him back?"
"Umm..anytime this evening is fine."
"Want me to call beforehand?"
She shrugged, "If you feel the need to, you can.."
He nodded, "Ok."
He walked out the door and went to catch up with Colin who was at his car. Madalyn closed the door and let out the breath she had been holding since she first saw Trevor; it wasn't as bad as she thought it was going to be.
She watched from the sidelight on the door as Trevor opened the door and Colin hopped in and he closed the door. Trevor then went to his side, got in, started the car, and pulled out of the driveway.
Madalyn sighed again, it was weird without Colin banging around the house now.
The phone rang and she went into the living room to get it, "Hello?"
"Hey, what are you doing?"
"Hi AJ..I'm sitting here in the living, how about you?"
"Gettin' ready to go get something to eat. Kid gone with the ogre?"
She smiled, "AJ! And yes, he is."
"How'd it go?"
"Not too bad, surprisingly. Trevor was a tad, bit uncomfortable though...especially when Colin ran to hug him, he like completely froze..that was a little weird.."
"What time he bringing him back?"
"I told him anytime this evening would be fine..."
"Ohhh...well..since you're alone and not doin' anything, how about you meet me and the guys for lunch?"
"Am I gonna be the only girl?"
"Naah, that'd be too tourtorous. Kristen's coming with Kev so she'll be there."
"Oh ok..where are you all going?"
"Ummm...dunno.."
She smiled, "Smart one...go ask!"
"Ok, okay, geez woman."
Madalyn laughed, "Sorry, anyways..go ask."
"I am, I am."
She could hear voice in the background but couldn't make them out. AJ was talking too loud anyways.
He then came back on the phone, "Ok..we're going to Don Pablo's, near the studio, know where I'm talking about?"
"Yeah, I'll meet you all there."
"Ok. See ya when ya get there."
"Ok, bye AJ."
"Bye."
Madalyn found the restaurant with ease, since she was on that side of town often, and went inside. She hadn't spotted any of the guys' cars outside and kind of hoped she wasn't the first one there.
She spotted Kristen almost right away and waved her over. The two hugged and Kristen commented, "You look so good!"
"I do?"
"Yeah!"
Madalyn smiled, "I guess so.."
"Anyways, we just got here ourselves and just got seated, come on."
"Ok. So how have you been?"
Kristen smiled, "Busy. It seems like I haven't been home for like more than three days since filming started."
"Really?"
"Yeah..but it's cool now, I've got a whole week off.."
"I bet Kevin's happy though."
"Yeah..so, how have you been? I heard all about the whole Trevor thing..is Colin with him?"
"Yeah, he has him for the day. I've been..tired. Hopefully things will slow down and I can actually keep my grip on things."
"You'll be okay, I'm sure. But who knows when AJ's around.."
She smiled, "I know...that is so the truth."
AJ heard the tail-end of their conversation, "Hey!"
The two women laughed and sat down. AJ leaned over and gave her a quick kiss on the check, "You okay?"
She nodded, "Yeah, I feel alot better since the whole thing with Trevor is done for the day."
"Good, good...so, what do you want to eat?"
"Don't know, but I am starved...I couldn't eat this morning, I was too nervous."
He smiled, "I would of stayed if ya told me Madalyn."
"I can take care of myself AJ, ok?"
He held his hands up in mock defense but smiled, "Ok, okay.."
The others came into the conversation and soon they were all pretty much talking at the same time.
Madalyn was in the front yard later that evening with AJ's dogs when Trevor's car drove up. Colin hopped out and ran over, immediately jumped on by the happy dogs. He then ran to Madalyn and hugged, "Hi mommy."
"Hi sweetie, did you have fun?"
He nodded, "Yeah!"
"Cool..go on inside and wash up, ok?"
"Ok! Bye daddy."
Trevor just waved a little and Colin ran into the house, the door closing behind him.
Madalyn stood up and walked over to him, "He do okay?"
He nodded, "Yeah, he was fine."
"Why do you act like you're mad?"
He sighed, "He is so spoiled Madalyn, I wonder how in the hell you punish him when he does anything bad."
"What are you talking about? What'd he do?"
"Took him to lunch and he USED to like grilled cheese and stuff so I ordered that and he whined that he couldn't eat it."
"He grew out of that."
"Could have told me."
She crossed her arms, "Trevor, I didn't know you were going to take him to eat and I didn't know you were going to order for him. I'm not clairvoyant or anything. Plus, he's old enough where he can order for himself. He's not a baby."
"He's spoiled, that's what he is."
"He is not!"
"Yes, he is. And he needs to be punished for when he does not listen correctly."
"Okay, don't tell me how to raise MY son."
"Damnit Madalyn, he's MY son too!"
"Oh, you realize that now?!"
"Don't question my authority!"
Madalyn flinched when he took a step towards her, he did tower over her by a good foot, "I'm not Trevor. I think you need to leave now. You can call and tell me when you want to see Colin again and I'll see if it's conveinent."
Trevor huffed and walked back to his car and angrily threw the door open, "This isn't over Madalyn. You can't only let me see him when it's conveinent for you. And you shouldn't question my authority, I own you Madalyn."
"Bullshit!"
He smiled smugly, "You and him both belong to me, until I say otherwise. And that day is not coming anytime soon. I'll call you."
Madalyn watched until he was completely out of sight before she gathered the dogs and took them inside.
AJ appeared at the top of the stairs at the sound of the door slamming, "Madalyn?"
"What?"
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, ok?!"
"Ok, Colin home?"
"Yeah..he's out back now.."
"Ok."
And that was the extent of their conversation that night.
