Chapter 2

AJ sat up as he heard a noise and yawned, rubbing a hand over his tired neck muscles. He heard it again and crawled out of bed going towards the door.

Once out in the hallway, he glanced quickly at Madalyn's door and then his head shot towards what was now Colin's room. AJ opened the door carefully to see the little boy sitting in the middle of his bed crying his little heart out. AJ shut the door and went to him, "Hey little man, what's wrong?"

Colin just shook his head and hooked himself to AJ. AJ wrapped an arm around him and began rocking back and forth slowly, "You have a bad dream?"

Colin shook his head 'yes' this time but snuggled closer to AJ. "Well..wanna tell me about it?"

"No.," He sniffled, "Where's my mommy?"

"She's still asleep, how about you come crash in my room for a little bit?"

"Can I?"

"Sure.."

Colin still clung to AJ as he stood up and walked back to his room.

A 'little bit' turned into the rest of the night as both guys fell asleep shortly after they laid down.

Madalyn woke up the next morning and went to check to see if Colin was awake. She was glad to find that he hadn't woken her up in the middle of night like he was so prone to do. She opened the door, yawning, and then paused...Colin's bed was empty. She looked around a little..his room was empty. She panicked and ran for AJ's room.

She was about to yell AJ's name after she opened the door to his room but stopped as she caught site of the two guys asleep. AJ was on one side of the bed, one leg poking out from the covers, one arm hugged Colin to him protectively. Colin was asleep curled against AJ's back, his legs sprawled out behind him.

Madalyn's heart stopped it's rapid beat and she smiled, they looked so cute. She was about to leave when she heard a small, "mommy?"

She pushed the door back open and walked in. Colin sat up, untangeling himself from AJ's arm, wiping at his eyes, "Hi mommy."

Madalyn held out her arms and he hopped into them, hugging her. "Hi sweetie, when'd you end up in here?"

"I had a bad dream mommy and AJ came in and said I could sleep with him."

"Well that was nice of him."

"Uh huh."

"How about me and you go downstairs and see what we can find to eat?"

"AJ too?"

"Sure."

Colin sprang from his mom's arms and ran down the stairs, happily calling out for the dogs JD and Vegas. Madalyn sighed, it was going to be a long day.

AJ came down the stairs about a half hour later. He smiled as he saw the mess that had been made by the three year old. Colin sat on the counter, covered head to toe in flour while Madalyn was standing by the stove attempting to make pancakes. Colin saw AJ and grinned, "Hi uncle AJ!"

AJ laughed, "Hey little man."

Madalyn looked a tad bit scared and that kind of worried AJ a little. "Oh my Lord AJ, I'm so sorry! I'll clean it up as soon as possible, we just got a little carried away..geez..I'm so sorry!"

"Madalyn, it's okay, really."

"I..I just...oh man, I always screw up at everything..I'm sorry."

AJ smiled and stepped over a broken egg on the floor, "Madalyn, it's okay, really."

"Are you sure you're not mad?"

"No not at all, my kitchen needed to be broken in anyways."

"Okay.."

"Colin, did you help your mom make breakfast?"

Colin nodded and hopped off the counter, "Yep!"

Madalyn fixed a plate and put it on the table, "We decided to make you breakfast, although it too longer than expected."

AJ laughed and sat down, "Well..don't leave me here by myself, come eat, both of you."

Madalyn shut Colin's bedroom door gently and went back downstairs and then went to the basement. AJ was seated at the soundboard in his basement recording studio, his head rocking to the beat coming from the speakers. He smiled when he saw her and motioned for her to sit down.

Madalyn did so, looking around with amazement. She had never seen anything this intricate and detailed. All around the room were various awards and pictures the BSB had won or taken. The beat ended and AJ turned to her, "Did you like it?"

She looked at him, she had almost forgotten where she was, "Oh yeah..that was great...is it for a new song?"

"Well..thats what I was thinking about using it for..little man down for the count?"

"For now."

AJ smiled, "He's a great kid...alot of energy."

"Believe me, I know. Can i ask you something?"

"Sure..anything."

"Why was he in your room this morning?"

"He had a nightmare and I woke up and went in his room and he was just crying and wouldn't tell me what was wrong so I told him he could come in my room for a little bit and well...that turned into all night. You're not mad are you?"

Madalyn shook her head, "Oh no, not at all. It's just, I'm so used to him coming and waking me up when he has a nightmare.."

"What does he have nightmares of?"

"Normal kid things, I guess. Monsters and fires and stuff...and right after Trevor left, they've been of him being left alone. He can hear me or something but can't get to me and that freaks him out.."

"Ohhh.."

"I was hoping that he'd get over it soon..but he hasn't yet."

"There's been alot going on for him.."

"I know."

AJ sighed, "I know this is rough on you too Madalyn."

"It is..it's gotten a little easier though.."

"Well, you know, if you need anything you let me know, okay?"

"AJ..."

"You let me know if you or Colin need anything...anytime, whenever, whereever, I'm here."

"Thank you."

"No prob."

Later that night, he watched as Madalyn tucked Colin into his bed, kissing his forhead lightly and then creeping out of the room.

He hadn't meant to eavesdrop on their 'mommy/son time' but she was just...so amazing. And she had no clue.
