Madalyn sat in front of Colin' school waiting for the children to be released from school. Her cell phone began to ring so she dug through her purse to find the mechanical device, "Hello?"
"Hey."
"Hey AJ..whatcha doing?"
"Just got home."
"You got out early, huh?"
He laughed, "Actually, I just snuck out.."
"Ohhhh, I'm sure the guys really appreciated that.."
"They understood.."
"Ohhh ok.."
"The kid out yet?"
She smiled, "Nope..and quit referring to him as that.."
He laughed again and it brought a wider smile to her face. "He likes it."
"I know, I know...I think that's the bad thing."
"Oh well. Hey, he doing anything with Trevor this weekend?"
"Ummm...nope, I don't think so. Why?"
"Well...how about he go stay with my mom..."
"And we'd be where?"
"Out of town."
"What are you talking about AJ?"
"I want to take you on a weekend trip...so we can really talk..I know we've been gone out but I feel like we both haven't all the way been there.."
"Where at?"
"Can't tell ya that.."
"AJ..I hate surprises."
He smiled, "Come on Madalyn...please?"
She sighed, "I hate it when you whine."
"Soo?"
"Fine...promise we'll be back on Sunday afternoon?"
"Yep."
"And you won't tell me where we're goin'?"
"Nope..not yet."
"Ok..okay..you got me McLean...this better be good."
"I think it will."
She smiled, "See you when we get home?"
"Yeah..I'll be here."
"Ok..see you in a little bit."
"Bye Madalyn."
"Bye."
She hung up and put the phone back into her purse. She shook her head, he always got to her no matter what.
A few minutes later, kids came pouring out from the school's entrance. Many ran to buses while others ran to cars and vans parked out front. Colin opened the door and pulled the door open, "Hi mommy!"
"Hey sweetie..hop in. How was school today?"
He buckled his seatbelt, "It was okay...can we go to McDonald's?"
"Ummm...sure, why not? It is Friday after all."
"Yes!"
She smiled and pulled away from the curb and onto the street, "So...tell me about your day?"
"Well Jimmy ate a big bug cause this other guy dared him to."
"Eww..that's gross Colin!"
He laughed, "I know! We had art today."
"Oh yeah, what'd you all do?"
"We painted fruit..it was kinda girly..."
"Not really...okay, what do you want?"
"Chicken nuggets!"
"Cool..should we get AJ something to?"
"Will he be home when we get home?"
"Yep..he called me right before you came out. How do you feel about staying with Denise for the weekend, just until Sunday afternoon or so?"
"That'd be fun..where are you and AJ goin'?"
"Apparently, AJ wants me and him to go on a small trip...you don't mind?"
He shrugged, "No..Denise is fun."
"Ok.."
Madalyn rolled down the window to order, then pulled around to pay at the drive-through window.
Colin opened the door and barreled through, dropping his backpack along the way. Madalyn came through full of bags and drinks, "Colin! Come back and pick this up!"
"But I'm hungry momma!"
"I know, but come back and put your backpack by the stairs."
"Ok."
She passed him in the hallway and set the things down on the counter. AJ came up from the basement, "Hey..'bout time you two got home."
"Hi AJ!"
"Hey kiddo! Have fun at school?"
"I guess.."
Madalyn smiled, "I brought food."
"Me too?"
"Yep..Colin suggested I bring you something so I felt nice."
AJ grinned, "Ohhh thanks Madalyn."
"No problem. Come sit down Colin."
"Ok."
Madalyn sat on her bed watching as AJ dug through her closet, pulling out articles of clothing and putting them into her suitcase. He pulled out a shirt and sat back on his heels, a smile on his face. "I had no clue you had such....sexy clothing."
She shot up off the bed and grabbed for it, "AJ! Give me that!"
He laughed and held it away from her, "Nu uh! I like it, we're takin' it with us!"
"No we're not!"
He stood up, "And why not?"
She sighed and relented, "Because..that is BC...before Colin."
"You had this when you were with Trevor? He let you wear this??"
She laughed, "I never actually got OUT in it."
He dropped the shirt and she snatched it. "Ugh, that was SO much TOO information Madalyn."
She laughed again, "I was just kidding! I bought it..but have never worn it...I found out I was pregnant before I ever got the chance..."
"Well, let's take it and see if we can get ya to wear it, k?"
She sighed and threw it into the suitcase, "Fine..."
He smiled and raised an eyebrow, "Maybe ya can wear it for me, huh?"
She hit him playfully, "In your dreams, buddy!"
He laughed and ducked out of the room before she could hit him again, "But they're very nice dreams Madalyn!"
"AJ!!!!"
