Over the past couple of months, Alexa and Justin's friendship bloomed to the point where they saw one another at least once a day. Well, that was until tour rehearsals began and school started once more.
Dan and Claire both kept Alexa up to date with the latest but it just wasn't the same. She was being kept busy with school and her new job and hadn't had time to talk on the phone let alone go out.
Alexa was walking through the parking lot, searching for her car, when she heard her cell ring. She found it, after having to stop and dig through her purse (she was really going to have to clean that out soon) and pulled it out, "Hello?"
"Hey stranger."
"Hey Justin..whatcha doing?"
"Going to McDonald's..you?"
"Trying to find my car..I guess I should pay more attention in the mornings, huh?"
He laughed, "Guess so..so, you done for the day?"
"Yep..I'm headin' home to study..and type a paper..woohoo..I love school."
"So...I'm guessing you wouldn't wanna come over and see my new place, would you?"
"Justin..I can't...I have got so much homework to do.."
"Ok..ok.."
"I'm sorry...maybe some other time?"
"Sure."
She sighed as she finally found her car and unlocked the doors, "Why are you sounding like you're pissed off?"
"I'm not...we just..we haven't gotten to hang out alot in the past couple months.."
"I know..but you're busy and I'm busy.."
He sighed, "It's only gonna get worse, ya know.."
"I know. When do you all leave?"
"Four weeks from today.."
"Ohhh..."
"When's your next break from school?"
"Ummm...the week after you all leave...it's a school holiday.."
"Well..we're gonna have to do something before we leave or else."
She smiled, "We will."
"So why not start tonight? Come on..I'll order in food..you can see my house and I'll even leave you alone long enough so you can study and type, what do you say?"
"We both know I won't get crap done?"
She could practically see the smile cross his face, "Duhhhh Lexi."
"Ok..okay..I might regret this tomorrow...but..I'll be there by 8..that gives me enough time to study and maybe type the paper."
"Yes! This'll be so much fun..you remember how to get to the place, right?"
"Yeah..I have the address written down."
"Cool...see you then."
"Bye Justin."
She hung up and put the phone somewhere where she couldn't reach it until she got back to her place. It wasn't that Alexa didn't want to go to Justin's to hang out...she did, she really did.
And she did have homework to do. But it could be put off until the next week...at the earliest.
Lately, she had begun thinking of Justin as not just 'Justin' but as Justin. She was thinking of him as a very, very hot guy. She had gotten over Will and what he had done to her. She was now her smart-ass, bold, confident self. And she was happy. But there was still that part of her mind that thought no matter what, another guy would hurt her. She knew that was ridiculous when it came to Justin...but still, that little voice in the back of her mind kept mocking and telling her over and over that she would just end up hurt again.
Alexa groaned and then turned up the radio to drown out her thinking. And that little nagging voice.
A little after eight, Alexa pulled up to Justin's house. No, take that back, Justin's mansion. He had just bought it the month before but she had been so busy (as had he) and hadn't gotten over to see it till now. She drove through the open gates and parked, surprised to see the gates close behind her. She grabbed her purse and went to knock on the door but it was pulled open before she could. "Hey girl!"
"Hi Justin."
He reached down to hug her tightly, "How you been?"
"Tired. You?"
"Exhausted."
She smiled, "I bet...how's rehearsals?"
Justin motioned for her to enter, "Well..they're rehearsals. We all run into one another and screw up every other movement. But it'll all come together."
"I'm sure it will."
"Claire's been hangin' around alot.."
"I know..she keeps skipping math...and school just started."
Justin laughed, "I know..she keeps whining about how she should go to class..but then she just stays."
"I know...I know..I keep giving her my notes too."
"Did you get your homework done?"
"Surprisingly, yes."
He grinned, "Cool.."
"Why? What's that grin for?"
"Nothin'..nothing...come on, let me give you the grand tour."
She looked up and her jaw dropped momentarily, "Grand is right! Do you get lost in here?"
"No."
"Well I would, damn Justin!"
He laughed and took her hand, "Come on, come on, you gotta see this place."
She let him drag her, she enjoyed him when he was being a goofy, almost twenty-year old.
