Chapter 4- Normalcy

The next morning, Kevin parked in Madison's driveway and walked up the front door and rang the doorbell. She opened the door and motioned for him to come inside since she was talking to someone on the phone. "Yeah..uh huh...sure...thats fine, really. I'll meet him at the airport tonight then..Rob, shut up and get him packed. Okay..love you too, bye."

Kevin smiled amused as she ran around the house trying to clean up. "That was my brother, he's going to England on a last minute thing and can't take Andrew with him so I got the kid for two weeks...umm..I'm almost ready..now where is my purse?"

Kevin pulled it out from behind him, "Right here?"

She smiled and took it from him, "Thanks..you ready?"

He nodded, "Yep..so what are you planning to do with Andrew on his visit?"

She shrugged as they walked to his 4-Runner and got inside. He backed out of the driveway and started for downtown. "I don't know..I took him to Disney, last time. Ummm...I guess hang out at the pools..ugh, damn, that means I gotta take more time off away from the office."

"I'm sure thats a good thing."

"Yeah..but I feel bad for having to take off so much."

"Well, if something happens and you can't get off, tell me and I'll take him out for a day or something."

"That's true, you haven't seen him since...well...the accident."

Kevin smiled ruefully, "You can talk about it without stuttering Madi..I've moved on.."

She sighed, "I know...I guess I have too..kinda."

He smiled, took her hand and kissed the back of it gently, "Now, what could I do with him?"

"Well..he loves basketball and football if that helps? And he's always loved the beach."

"Maybe one day you and me and can take him?"

Madison smiled, "That sounds wonderful."

Kevin pulled up in the parking lot of the studio and shut off the ignition, "Its going to be SO much fun today."

Madison rolled her eyes playfully, "Don't get that attitude mister, you love this and you know it."

He laughed and took her hand as they walked towards the door, "Yeah...I do...and I love you too."

She smiled up at him, "I love you too Kevin."

Madison spotted the brunette, skinny little boy as he bounded off the plane and towards her. Andrew had grown at least an inch, if not more, and had just turned 7. "Hey you! How was the flight?"

"It was cool! I sat next to this reeeallly tall guy and he plays basketball for his college and was tellin' me all these stories!"

"Sounds cool 'Drew, let's go get your things, k?"

"Okay! I bet I can carry them all by myself."

"I bet you can't!"

However, Andrew proved Madison wrong and carried both his bags all by himself to her car and loaded them in. He them hopped into the car and buckled his seat belt as Madison got in and did the same. "Aunt Madi?"

"Yeah little man?"

"Are you and Kevin back together?"

"As a matter of fact, we are."

"That's good, I like Kevin."

"I do too."

"Will I get to see him?"

"Most likely, we were going to try to plan a day to go to the beach, just the three of us..how does that sound?"

"Cool! Can I learn to surf?"

"We'll see."

"Okay!"

Madison watched as Andrew slept in the guestroom peacefully. She sighed, she wanted children of her own so badly she almost wanted to cry. She closed the door carefully and walked downstairs, it was one of those nights again where sleep wouldn't come no matter how tired she was. She sat in the kitchen on a stool staring at a candle as it burned down. The unlocking of the door startled her until she saw Kevin's frame enter the kitchen doorway. "What are you doing here this late?," Madison asked quietly.

He shrugged, came in and sat down beside her, "I missed you."

She smiled, "Oh."

"What are you doing up so late?"

"Couldn't sleep..too many things on my mind."

"Like what?," He asked playing with a ring on one of her fingers.

"Everything..nothing...something.."

"Well that helps..Andrew upstairs in the guestroom?"

"Yep.."

"So that means I'm on the couch, huh?"

Madison looked at him confused, "Umm...why would you be on the couch? We've slept in the same bed before Kev."

"I know..but I figured since we just got back together and all..."

She smiled, "The way I look at it Kev, we took a small break, and now we're back and happy as ever."

"You sure?"

"Positive."

"Well come on up with me then.."

She nodded, then blew out the candle and followed him upstairs. She closed the door and put her jewelry on the nighttable and crawled into bed. Kevin changed and crawled in after her, pulling her close to him. "Now..tell me what's on your mind."

"I was watching Andrew sleep..and just watching a child sleep brought so many things into my mind..."

"About your daughter??"

"Yeah..she was there. I mean, she would of been what? Four, or five or six. Lord, I can't even remember. I was just thinking how happy I was with having a child, even getting up in the middle of the night was wonderful to me...."

"What else?"

"I was thinking about Andrew too...he's grown up so much...he's an amazing little boy and I realized, I'll never see my daughter to that.."

"Madi..it wasn't your fault."

"I know..I know...but I miss having that little person look to me with so much love and understanding...I miss watching her sleep.."

"You'd watch her sleep?"

"Sometimes, after a middle-of-the-night feeding and she finally went to sleep, I'd watch her sleep so soundly just for a minute and I some realization came over me..."

"What was that?"

Madison sighed and wiped a stray tear away quickly, "I was somebody's mother, as scary as that was, and she looked up to me."

"Oh baby..I wish I'd known about this...."

"You couldn't of known Kev..I just started thinking about it a couple days ago..."

He tightened his arms around her, "You want to have children..."

"Yeah..I mean, not like right this second Kev or anything but one day..."

He kissed her gently, "The funny thing 'bout it Mads, I can actually see myself being married to you and having children with you.."

"You could?"

He nodded, "Yep...you'd be an amazing mother, I'm sure you were."

"I'd be so scared."

"Of what?"

"That I'd screw up again..."

"Madison Langely, that was not your fault, no matter how hard that family believes it was. You tried to get her out, you did everything in your power to get to her.."

Madison sighed, "I hate thinking about this but sometimes things just resurface and I can't sleep sometimes.."

He kissed her forehead, "I'm here, okay Madison? I love you, no matter what, and I think it's time we go to sleep or we'll both be zombies."

She nodded, "You're right...and I love you too.."
