One Year Later

It's been about a year since I've updated this website, which means I've now been living in Chicago for a year and 3 months.

Things are going really well. I've finally nearing the end of my education and should be receiving my Masters in Criminal Justice in the spring. What a relief it will be to finally be finished with school.

I'm still working at the salon on an "on-call" basis, which is great for me. I put in a few hours every couple of weeks and I still get my hair done for free, which saves me a ton of money.

I also have a "real" job down at UIC. I'm a Graduate Assistant in the Office of External Eduation. I will be working more hours there in the spring, and then hopefully I will be hired as full-time once school is out. I've got my fingers crossed, but I think things are looking good.

The holidays are coming up and I will be spending Thanskgiving in Chicago. My brother lives here now, so my parents will be driving down for a long weekend. And then I'll be in MN for 2 weeks over Christmas break. Hopefully I will make it back to Kansas over my Spring Break (the last week in March 2005), just in time to watch KU win the National Championship, right?

Well, I miss everyone lots, and I would love to hear what everyone is up to so make sure to sign the guestbook or send me an e-mail to etelsc1@uic.edu.

It's Getting Cold!

Well, I've been in Chicago for just about 3 months and things are going really well.

I'm about to finish up my first semester of Graduate School in a few weeks. It's been very demanding, but I've learned a lot. I took on a full load this semester, so I've been able to learn all about Criminological Theory, Quantitative Research Methods, and Violence. Next semester I will also take a full load which means I will be learning about Law and Society, Qualitative Methods, and Processes and Institutions. It should be interesting. I'm definately ready for a break though.

I found myself a job at a salon here in Lincoln Park called J. Gordon Designs. At one point in time it was actually the first Aveda Concept Salon in the U.S., which means that it's been around for awhile and the people I work with are very good at what they do and some are well known within the salon industry. The salon only does hair and makeup and a little bit of waxing, but they are all very good at what they do, and it's a fun environment to work in.

I've also spent a lot of time decorating my apartment and I think it's finally starting to feel like home. For all of you who haven't been here yet, I'm excited for you to see what my neighborhood and my home look like. For those of you who have visited, you're going to have to visit again, because it already looks completely different.

I'm going to try to be better about updating this now that I live so far away from everyone, so check back every now and then to see the new pictures that will pop up from time to time.

Also, don't forget to sign the guestbook, the old one expired, so the new one is really empty again. Let me know what you think of the website and how things are going in general.

Hello from Chicago!

I have started the next chapter in my life and am now living in Chicago. I've been here a little over a week and I love it. I'm living in a cute little apartment in Lincoln Park and I'm just wasting time until schools starts again on the 25th of August.

I graduated from KU with a BA in Psychology and Sociology with an empasis in Crime and Delinquency Studies. I'm in Chicago because I am about to start a Masters program in Criminal Justice at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). I don't really know how I feel about going back to school after a very relaxing summer, but at least it will give me something to do. And I don't have to worry about finding a real job yet.

So, things are going great. The funny thing about moving here is that its given me a lot of time to do the things I never had time to do in Kansas, like update this web page. I hope you enjoy the pictures, I've added tons of new ones. And hopefully I will have some Chicago pictures added really soon.

Don't forget to sign the questbook!

Spring Update

Well, my last semester as an undergraduate has begun and so far it's been a lot of fun.

I'm only taking 12 hours, so I don't have too much work when it comes to school. The classes that I'm taking will complete my thrid major in Sociology and prepare me for Graduate School.

I took a weekend trip with my mom to Chicago to check out one last school, and I've decided that it's the place for me (as long as I get accepted). Besides the visit to the school, mom and I spent time shopping and eating great food. We also visited the Chicago Art Institute (the museum in Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and saw some pretty amazing art. We also went to the Terra Museum and saw more great stuff (less famous, but still amazing). The only bad part of the trip was leaving. It snowed the day we left so my flight was delayed about 2 1/2 hours, and mom's was delayed 4 1/2, so that wasn't the best, but all the fun we had made up for it.

So, now I'm just trying to figure out what I'm going to do once I grauate. I take the GRE in 5 days, and hopefully I'll do well enough to impress the people at UIC. If not, maybe I'll take a year off and build up my resume. Who knows.

Hope everything is going great with everyone. Sign the guestbook or e-mail me and let me know how you are doing!

FINALLY UPDATED

Welcome to my web site. Jon created it for me about a year ago and I am finally updating it. A lot has changed since then, I’m now 22 (and gummy according to my guy friends).

I’m in my last semester at KU, so I’ll be done with school in December but I won’t walk down the hill until May. I’ll spend the spring applying to (and hopefully getting into) Graduate Schools. I went to New York over fall break w/my family and visited John Jay School of Criminal Justice in NYC and the Rutgers campus in Newark, New Jersey.

I liked both schools a lot but I’m still going to visit the University of Illinois – Chicago, the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, and possibly the University of Arizona. So, hopefully I’ll find a new home w/in the next six months.

Besides that, I’m living w/my three roomies, Jenny, Janessa, and Laura while working lots of hours as a shift manager at Beauty Brands Salon & Spa. So, if you need a haircut, massage, facial, whatever, come visit me!
