LETTER FROM THE
PRESIDENT ON WRHL 2000

9/4/2000
As we move into September, I think the illusion
of a possible WRHL season for 2000 has faded.
Personally, playing in the 1999 season was fun;
however, from an organizational standpoint, it was
another difficult and expensive year. This past
spring I decided that I was not interested in doing the
work to put together a team or playing my part to
organize the league for the upcoming summer.
Now, as I finish up a second session of C-League
hockey at All-American in Lenexa, I've been thinking
about the WRHL and this website. I've decided on
three things:
1. I am not ready to officially close the WRHL. Instead,
with the support of the other Board members, I would
like to simply put the league on hiatus.
2. Even if the league is folded, somehow I would like
to see play for the Snacker Cup continue.
3. I have decided to keep this website open no matter
what happens to the league. If the WRHL is reborn,
then it will resume full duties. Otherwise, the site will
act as a history for the league.
It has been a long time since I've spoken to representa-
tives from the other teams, but I would definitely like
to hear from the Hamlin, Hiawatha and Robinson
captains. When you get a chance, post on the
message board and leave your e-mail address. Hope-
fully we can then set up an online meeting to discuss
the fate of the league.
Thanks,
Dylan Goodwin

WRHL INTRODUCES NEW BEER

10/27/99
The WRHL will release an official beer this Saturday
at a Halloween gathering in Lenexa. The beer is called
Wolf River Brew and is made in Hiawatha by a member of
the league. The beer will be sold for $2.50 a bottle,
and profits will go toward operational costs for the
league. Officials believe that Wolf River Brew will
make the WRHL the only hockey league with its own
beer. The NHL has an official beer, but it is not
produced or named after the league. Until a National
Hockey Brew comes out, the NHL can play catch-up with
the WRHL.

KC MAY BE HOMELESS IN 2000

10/17/99
In a surprise twist to the WRHL off-season, it appears
as though Damage Inc. will join the other three teams
in searching for a new rink for the 2000 season.
Although it is not official, the owners of the home
rink for KC, All-American Sports, are pursuing a new
building in order to offer roller hockey year-round.
Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, if they make the
move, the new building will not be ready for hockey
until next July or later. The old building will not be
re-opened if they do.

Of course, Damage is in much better shape than three
northern teams. There are some options for KC, but the
situation in Hiawatha grows more dismal each season.
Obviously, the interest is there; however, the league
will always be on shaky ground in Hiawatha until an
adequate rink magically appears.

NEW SCHEDULE FOR WRHL REPORT

9/22/99
Due to the addition of this website, the league
newsletter will now come out once a year. In recent
years, the Report had been releasing an issue before
and after each season, but the WRHL will now focus on
the one pre-season issue to promote upcoming seasons.
Although only about 15 percent of the players in the
WRHL have internet access, it is much easier to
provide a season recap in a timely manner on the
website. Also, the website provides more space and
better photo reproduction, and it's basically
free.

DAMAGE AND LEAFS GO DOWN TO THE WIRE

7/15/99
In a classic duel that featured two hat tricks and
some second period heroics, Kansas City outlasted
Hiawatha 6-5 to win the 1999 Snacker Cup this past
Sunday. Devin Dollar and Brian Finch played the
critical roles for KC. Finch had a hat trick and the
game-winner. Dollar had two important goals late in
the final period. His first goal tied the game, and
the second gave Kansas City its first lead with only
three minutes left. Don McKinnis assisted on both of
Dollar's goals.

KC appeared to be in serious trouble when Hiawatha's
Phillip Ingram scored with 13:08 left in the final
period. The goal gave Hiawatha a commanding 4-2 lead,
but KC kept the shots coming, outshooting Hiawatha
15-5 in the second period.

Steve McMahon cut the lead to one with a goal at the
10:45 mark. Then Dollar added his two goals to give
KC a 5-4 lead with three minutes left. Forty
seconds later Finch scored his third to make it
6-4. The goal would turn out to be the game-winner.
Damage appeared to be in control, but KC's McKinnis
got called for elbowing with 1:05 left in the game.
Skating with an empty net and a 5-3 advantage,
Hiawatha converted when Ingram scored his third goal
of the game with 15 seconds left off an assist from
Charlie Stinson. The goal helped make for a dramatic
ending, but KC survived as the Leafs only got off
one shot in the final seconds.

100 GOALS FOR McMAHON AS THE RECORDS FALL

7/8/99
In addition to hitting 100 career points this year,
Kansas City's Steve McMahon became the first WRHL
player to net 100 career goals. The 100th goal
occurred at the Dairy Queen Centre as Kansas City
ripped Robinson 17-5 on June 20. Dylan Goodwin
assisted on the goal which came with 18:49 left in the
second period. McMahon finished the season with 103
career goals.

Bob Lisowski of Hiawatha broke two records with a 13-
point performance against the Hornets on June 19. The
13-point game shattered the single game point record
of 10 set by the Jesters' Ian Schuetz against the Maple
Leafs back on November 15, 1996. In addition, the
seven assists Lisowski collected broke Schuetz's
record of six set in last year's Championship against
Damage.

The rookie records were challenged this year by the
Kansas City rookies. Don McKinnis tied the season
record of 22 points set by Steve McMahon back in 1991,
and Alex Davenport broke Mike Koerperich's 1991 record
of six assists with nine assists on the year. John
Hofer tied a rookie record for goals in a game shared
by Steve McMahon and Charlie Stinson when he notched
seven goals in the June 27 game against Robinson.
Davenport also tied Bob Lisowski's rookie record of
five assists in a game against the Hornets on June 20.

With 18 assists on the year, Dylan Goodwin broke
Austin Roberts 1997 record of 14 assists in a season.
Goodwin claimed the record by collecting seven assists
in KC's final game against Robinson. The seven assists
also tied the single-game mark that Lisowski had set
earlier in the year. For a more comprehensive look,

the Records link at the bottom of the page.

PLAYOFFS ARE SET

6/30/99
After a split during the Monday night doubleheader,
Hamlin and Hiawatha will prepare to battle again in
the first round of the WRHL playoffs. Hiawatha pounded
the Jesters 8-1 in the first game on Monday, but
Hamlin came back to win the second game 6-5 after
trailing 4-1. It should make for an interesting
playoff. The Jesters and Leafs tangle at 2:00 p.m. on
Sunday, July 11. The game will be played in Overland
Park and the winner will go on to the Championship
game at 3:30 p.m.

In the other first-round matchup, Robinson and Kansas
City will also go at it again after finishing their
regular season on Sunday in Overland Park. Kansas City
mauled the Hornets 14-1 in that game, but could face a
stiffer challenge in the playoff rematch at 1:00 p.m.,
July 11 in Overland Park. The Hornets should have Matt
Oliver back in goal which will get Ian Schuetz back
into the action as a forward. The winner will face the
winner of the Jesters-Leafs first-round game in the
3:30 Championship game. All of the games will be
played at All-American in Overland Park.

JESTERS AND LEAFS RESCHEDULE

6/26/99
Today's game between Hiawatha and Hamlin has been
rescheduled for Monday at 5:30 p.m. This will set
up a Monday night doubleheader between the two teams.
The second game will be played 20 minutes after the
end of the first. The Jesters and Leafs are the only
two teams that have not yet faced each other this
season. The two teams are battling for second place in
the league as Kansas City has already secured the
regular season title.

In addition, Hamlin could use a win or two to avoid
going to the tiebreaker for seedings. The tiebreaker
favors Hamlin over Robinson, but the Jesters would
probably rather take care of the situation on the
asphalt.

Sunday's game between Robinson and Kansas City will be
played as scheduled. In order to avoid the fourth seed
in the playoffs, the Hornets need to win and hope for
a Hiawatha sweep of Hamlin. If they lose, they will
most likely face Kansas City again in the first round
of the playoffs.

BUSY WEEKEND FOR THE WRHL

6/12/99
The WRHL action this weekend will be fast and fierce
as the league offers up four games in three days. The
fun begins today at 2:00 p.m. as Robinson and Hamlin
will battle it out at the Dairy Queen Centre in
Hiawatha. The teams will then conclude their two-game
season series with a repeat match-up Monday evening at
7:00 p.m. (also at the DQ Centre).

On Sunday, Hiawatha will travel to Overland Park for a
2:30 p.m. doubleheader with Kansas City at All-
American Indoor Sports. The repeat of last year's
championship should provide some great hockey as both
teams are looking to stay undefeated after opening the
1999 season with a win last week.

McMAHON HITS 100

6/10/99
Kansas City's Steve McMahon became the second player
to score 100 career WRHL points with a late, first
period goal in the June 6th opener. The milestone
came on a wrist shot from the blue line that narrowly
slipped past Hamlin goaltender, Brad Scott. Rookie Don
McKinnis assisted on the goal which came with 2:25
left in the first period and gave KC a 2-1 lead. KC
went on to a 9-2 win.

McMahon had four goals in the game and now has 103
career points, which breaks down as 88 goals and 15
assists. He hit the century mark in 34 games. Dylan
Goodwin became the first WRHL player to hit the mark
two years ago, but took 35 games. Goodwin currently
has 111 career points in 40 games.

MISSING GAME

5/30/99
On the original league schedule posted here and printed
on orange paper, the Robinson at Hamlin game sheduled
for 7:00 p.m. on June 14 was omitted. The mistake has
been corrected, and we apologize for any confusion.
Also, check out the individual team schedules by
clicking on the team links below.

GAME ON

5/26/99
Thanks to the Hiawatha Dairy Queen, the 1999 season
is finally set. The Dairy Queen stepped up when no one
else would and agreed to let Hamlin, Hiawatha and
Robinson use their north parking lot for home games.
The league is recognizing the gesture by naming the
Dairy Queen as an official sponsor.

Kansas City will also upgrade by moving from Listowel
Park to All-American Indoor Sports, which is about 20
blocks directly south of Listowel. Kansas City will
also host the 1999 playoffs at the All-American
facility on July 11. Check out the complete schedule
below.

SCHEDULE IS DELAYED
4/14/99
Originally the league was hoping to release a schedule
by April 15, but Hamlin, Hiawatha and Robinson have
asked for additional time before the league releases a
schedule. The three Brown County area teams are
waiting to find out if an indoor site will be
available. As soon as a site is secured for the
northern teams, it will be on the website. Check the
message board for up-to-date info.

ROBINSON IS BACK
3/8/99
When Damage Inc. left Robinson last year for Kansas
City, it left the WRHL without a presence in the town
that was the birthplace for the league back in 1989.
Now after a one-year absence, Ian Schuetz will bring
an expansion team back to "Hockeytown." The team will
officially be called the Robinson Hornets, but will
most likely be known as the more informal "Hooterville
Hornets." The expansion was critical for the league
after struggling through two seasons with only three
teams. The WRHL will once again move to a four-team
playoff after a six-game season to determine the
Snacker Cup champion.
1999 BOARD MEETING
2/27/99
The first WRHL Board Meeting of 1999 will take place
February 28 at the Bob Lisowski Estate in Hiawatha.
Topics at the meeting will include Kansas City's move
to a new indoor rink in Overland Park, the Hiawatha
area rink situation, expansion and the move to
four-on-four hockey.
