Andromenda Scouts- Treenie's Story
"MMMMMMMMMM" Treenie smiled in her sleep. She was having the most wonderful dream: Her, Matt, alone on a desert island. Oh it was heaven! Sadly, it couldn't last, Treenie's alarm rang. Treenie woke up, rolled over, and went back to sleep. A few minutes later, Treenie's mom came in and shook her. "I'm up! I'm up!" Treenie yelled. Her mom left, and Treenie went back to bed.
"EEEEYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!" Treenie's little brother Ryan came running into the room and jumped on her. She was up now. Yelling she picked him up and threw him on the floor. "OOWWW! I'm telling mom!" Her brother rubbed his bottom, where he had landed, and ran out the door.
"I don't care if you do you little pest!" Treenie yelled after him, and slammed her door closed after him. She shook her head. 'Little brothers....' Treenie thought. Oh well, she couldn't stay mad today. It was Friday, the end of a loooooong week. Plus, she was meeting Matt at the pizza place after school. 'Hmmmm...I better decide what to wear! I've gotta look good today!' Treenie ran to her closet and began to dig through the piles of clothes.
Clad in a tight pink sweater, black pants, and black platform shoes, Treenie brushed her long blonde hair into a bouncy ponytail on top of her head, and ran into the kitchen. Grabbing a muffin, Treenie said good bye to her parents, and ran out the door. If she didn't get going, she would be late to school. School wasn't far from her house, but Treenie tended to dawdle on the way. 'Why didn't my mom get me up sooner?' Treenie wondered, hurrying along the sidewalk.
Treenie burst into school just as the 10 minute bell rang. Breathing a sigh of relief, Treenie went to her locker. "Hey cutie!" said a male voice behind her.
Treenie turned around, "Matt!" she exclaimed, throwing her arms around him.
A couple of stupid little freshman guys walked by. "Ewwww! PDA!PDA!" they snickered. Before Matt and Treenie could say anything, the freshman ran away for some unknown reason. Treenie looked behind her and saw her friend Branwen coming. 'No wonder...' Treenie thought, 'Almost everyone is scared of Branwen. I wonder what she would have done to those freshman if they hadn't left?' Treenie shuddered as she thought of what Branwen might do, Treenie hated violence, and she hated blood even more.
"Hey guys!" Branwen said cheerfully. "You want to go bowling with me and Chris tonight? Girls against boys?" Chris was Branwen's boyfriend. Treenie smiled, Branwen and Chris looked so cute together. Branwen was tall with sandy blonde hair and green eyes, and Chris was tall with sandy blonde hair and blue eyes. It was weird how they went together, Branwen was tough and didn't really have any feelings or didn't show them, and Chris was so sweet and kind of quiet until you got to know him. Chris could be though though. Treenie smiled remembering how he had beat up Nick at the big dance because he was trashing Branwen.
Treenie and Matt looked at each other, and nodded. It would be fun, besides, they could go get pizza any day. Treenie smiled again, with Branwen on her side, they would win easily. Branwen was VERY athletic, and even more competitive.
BLEEEEP! The 5 minute bell rang. "Oh no!" Treenie yelled as she grabbed her books and ran down the hall. "Bye!" she called over her shoulder. Branwen shook her head, and she and Matt headed off to their first hour.
Treenie ran down the hall. She couldn't be late today. She was always running a little late, which was a problem at school. Especially with Mr. Goodman as a first hour teacher. He was nice enough, but he had a very strict tardy policy. Treenie giggled out loud, tardy was such a funny word! Then she laughed even louder thinking of Mr. Goodman. He was tall and bone-thin, about 80 years old, and had a huge handlebar mustache. He also wrote and gave killer tests, which was a problem for Treenie. 'Oh no! We have a test today!' Treenie remembered, and hurried along even faster. Anyone late on a test day got an automatic zero.
Treenie slid into her seat a moment before the bell rang. Treenie was so relieved. A zero would not be the best thing for her borderline grade. Mr. Goodman glanced at her with a surprised look. Treenie was in the wrong seat. Treenie realized a moment later and, grinning sheepishly, moved over a row and up a desk to her seat, wondering if Mr. Goodman would count her tardy because she wasn't in her seat when the bell rang.
"Ms. Noi..." he began in his stern voice. "Normally I would count you tardy," Treenie tried to control her giggles, "however, we have a test that will take the entire class period and I don't think you need a zero. So let me-" he saw Treenie's face, "What is so funny?"
"Nothing Mr. Goodman." Treenie said. She was the picture of innocence sitting properly in her seat, hands folded on her lap, a serene look on her face, and smile a mile wide.
"Well okay...Let's begin!" Mr. Goodman handed out the test papers and the class got started. Treenie gulped as she stared at her paper. How was she supposed to know all of that social studies stuff. She could care less. 'Oh well, I'll just guess like usual. At least I have a 1 in 4 chance of getting it right.' Treenie thought. That was the only thing she liked about Mr. Goodman, he gave multiple choice tests.
Treenie struggled through the test, and finished with 5 minutes to spare. She flipped her paper back to the front page to make sure her name was on it. Then she glanced at the directions: QUESTIONS MAY HAVE MORE THAN ONE RIGHT ANSWER. 'Oh man!' she thought. Treenie flipped through the pages, circling an answer here and there. "Turn in your papers!" Mr. Goodman chirped.
Treenie moaned. She had totally bombed the test. The bell rang and she gathered her stuff and walked out of the room.
Treenie slogged through her morning classes, then finally...LUNCH! Treenie was starving. She ran to the cafeteria and to her usual table. Sitting down, she unpacked her lunch from her lunchbox. 'MMMMM' She thought, mouth watering. She dug right in, then waved to Branwen and sort of half waved to Venus. Venus didn't like her. She didn't like Venus.
"Hey Treenie! What's up?"
"Hey Brannie! Nothin' much! Oh..ummmm hi Venus."
"Hi Treenie." Venus replied in an almost inaudible voice.
"You sitting with us today?" Treenie asked Venus.
"Who else would I sit with you dillflong?" Venus rolled her eyes. Treenie was such an idiot, and a totall klutz. Sitting down as far away from Treenie as possible, but staying near Branwen, Venus began to eat. "What are you doing after school Branwen?" she asked.
"Me, Chris, Treenie, and Matt are going bowling." Branwen said, feeling guilty that she hadn't invited Venus, but then they wouldn't have even numbers.
"Oh." Venus's face fell. She wished she had a boyfriend. "I wish I had a boyfriend. A really cute one too! Oops, am I being snobby?" Venus was especially careful not to be like her old self.
"No, you aren't being snobby. Anyone in particular you like?" Branwen inquired.
Through all this, Treenie just sat and ate. She could care less about Venus, even less than about social studies.
"Chad." Venus said, "He is so adorable! And I guess he's really nice, I don't know him. That's what I heard anyway."
This caught Treenie's attention, "Chad?! You're kidding! He is like one of my best friends!"
Branwen nodded, "One of mine too!" she said. "Hey, we could set you up!"
"Oh would you!?"
Treenie nodded enthusiastically. She loved playing matchmaker, even if it was for Venus.
"Hello there!" said a voice. It was Kyrria, one of Treenie's sort-of-friends. She didn't really know her too well, Kyrria kept to herself mostly. Treenie was not one for quiet people, and was determined to bring Kyrria out of her shell.
"Hi Kyrria! How was your day?" Treenie chirped. Maybe if she got Kyrria talking...
"Hi ummm Treenie. It was okay I guess." Kyrria said with all the enthusiasm and personality of a wet mop.
"Okay? Like okay how? What made it okay?" Treenie was getting frustrated. Why wouldn't Kyrria talk?
"Oh shut up dillwok! Can't you see she's trying to eat?!" Treenie shot Venus a LOOK.
"Okay, what is this thing with dill Veen?" Branwen asked, with a look of mock curiousness on her face.
Venus grinned, "Just so long as it's not a do!" Branwen thought for a second and burst into giggles. Treenie sighed, she wished she had a best friend. She wanted to laugh and talk like Branwen and Venus did. Branwen was a good friend, but she already had a best friend-Venus. Treenie glanced at Kyrria. 'Hmmmmm' Treenie wondered. If Kyrria would just come out of her shell, she could have deffinate friend potential.
Lunch was over, and Treenie went back to class. It was art, and Branwen was in that class. They sat next to each other. The art teacher sat them in alpahbetical order. Treenie was wondering why Noi and Zeigman were next to each other. The thinking gave her a headache, so she decided not to worry about it. She wasn't complaining.
All too soon art ended, and it was back to the boring classes. But soon, the day was over, and Treenie ran to Branwen's locker, where Matt and Chris were waiting. Then Treenie noticed Chad was there too, and Venus was approaching them. "Chad this is Venus. Venus, this is Chad. Now, let's go!"
"Wait!" Treenie cried. "I left something in my gym locker." So Branwen, Venus, and Treenie trooped over to the gym. "I'll hurry!" Treenie exclaimed and started running.
"Treenie! Don't run by the pool! It could be wet, you could fall!" Venus cried out, but it was too late. Treenie slipped on a puddle of water and fell into the pool, the deep end to be exact. As she fell, she bumped her head on the side and sank down to the bottom like a stone. "Treenie!" Venus screamed. "Branwen, what do we do?" But Branwen had already kicked off her shoes and was yanking off her socks. Taking a giant breath, Branwen dove into the pool, with all of her clothes still on.
Down, down, down, Branwen swam. Why did Treenie have to fall into the 14 foot deep end? Swimming forwards, Branwen spotted Treenie and grabbed Treenie's arm. Then Branwen began to swim to the surface, Treenie's body tucked under her arm.
Meanwhile Venus was hysterical with worry on the side of the pool. She didn't know whether to jump in or stay put. Branwen had been down there an awful long time.... Venus saw Branwen's head pop up out of the water, take a huge breath, go back under agian, and then saw Treenie's head and upperbody raised above the water. Branwen had begun to swim towards the shallow end. Venus ran to the shallow end, kicked off her shoes, and began to wade in down the stairs. Slipping, she fell flat on her face and was completely soaked.
Branwen was closer now. "Venus come-" she started to call, but then she saw Venus had waded in up to her knees. Branwen could finally stand, and sort of dragged Treenie towards Venus. Together, the girls each grabbed an arm and pulled Treenie up the steps and out of the water, laying her on the dry concrete. Then, soaking wet, Branwen and Venus stared at each other. What were they going to do?
"Kyrria!" Branwen exclaimed. Branwen had never been happier to see Kyrria in all the time she had known her-since they were 5. Maybe Kyrria would know what to do.
"Oh my goodness! What happened here?" Kyrria was staring at Treenie.
"She fell into the pool." Venus explained.
"Really?" Kyrria mumbled. Venus ignored the comment. Then, in a more audible voice, "Okay, we just need to calm down. Venus, you go find Mrs. Dinsmore and have her call for help. Branwen, you stay here and help me. Got it?" Both girls nodded and Treenie ran off in search of Mrs. Dinsmore, the girls PE teacher.
"What do I need to do?" Branwen asked Kyrria. She was really worried.
But Kyrria was leaning over Treenie, checking if she was breathing. She was, faintly. Kyrria let out a huge breath she had been holding, that was a relief. That breath made her think of something. "Branwen, you held your breath for a long time, and you put out a lot of energy getting Treenie. You need to lie down and rest. Venus should be back soon, and I think Treenie's okay." Branwen nodded and lay down.
*******************
Venus ran through the locker room looking for Mrs. Dinsmore. She was worried about Treenie. What if she didn't make it? Venus wished she had been nicer to Treenie, Treenie wasn't so bad. Where was Mrs. Dinsmore? "Mrs. Dinsmore? MRS. DINSMORE? WHERE ARE YOU?!" Venus screamed at the top of her lungs. Suddenly Mrs. Dinsmore came out of her office, the last place Venus would have looked.
"Psyche!" Mrs. Dinsmore barked, "What do YOU want? What are YOU doing here?". Venus grimaced. Mrs. Dinsmore always called people by their last names. Besides that, Mrs. Dinsmore hated Venus because she wasn't athletic, not like teacher's pet Branwen. Mrs. Dinsmore always had Branwen demonstrate and Branwen was always team captain. But there was no time to go on about it, Treenie needed help!
"Mrs. Dinsmore! Treenie, errr Noi fell into the pool. Branwen, uh Zeigman got her out, but she's barely breathing and Kyrria...er..." Venus didn't know Kyrria's last name, "is helping her, she knows what to do. She said we should call the medics!"
Mrs. Dinsmore had a horrified expression on her face. "Why didn't you say so sooner Psyche?" Mrs. Dinsmore ran back into her office and picked up the phone, dialing 9-1-1. She gave the opperator all the information, then grabbed Venus's arm and pulled her out to the pool area.
Venus screamed, seeing Branwen lying down, motionless. Had something happened to Branwen too? Hearing Venus's scream, Branwen shot up into sitting position. 'Whew!' Venus thought, that was close. "Don't you ever scare me like that again Branwen Zeigman!" Branwen hid a smile. Venus, worried about her? But she just nodded.
"Say Treenie, what's-" Matt walked into the gym. They had been waiting an awfully long time. He saw Treenie on the ground, Branwen sitting there soaked, and Venus wet up to her knees. "Oh my god! What happened?" Matt was getting hysterical, Treenie wasn't moving.
"There is not adequetly long enough time to inform you now, I shall explain later." Kyrria said. Where were the paramedics? Chris and Chad ran in and stopped short. What was wrong?
"Branwen! You're all wet? What-" Chris began, as the medics ran in. They lifted Treenie up onto a stretcher, and grabbed Branwen.
"Hey what are you doing?!" Branwn cried in protest, but she was lifted onto a stretcher also. Then they grabbed Venus and pulled her into the ambulance. Kyrria also got in, and the doors shut and the ambulance sped away.
"Come on," said Mrs. Dinsmore, "I'll drive you to the hospital!" They hurried out to the parking lot, jumped in the car, and headed to the hospital.
*************************
Kyrria was hunched over Treenie next to a medic, who was explaining how she would be treated. Kyrria nodded, questioned, and even made suggestions. Kyrria had saved Treenie's life back by the pool. But glancing at Branwen now, Kyrria was worried. Branwen was shivering and looking kind of dazed.
Branwen was dizzy. Lights became brighter, objects became darker, and darker, and darker, and suddenly everything went black. Branwen slumped over into Venus's lap.

Matt, Chris, Chad, and Mrs. Dinsmore waited in the hospital's tiny waiting room. Suddenly a nurse came into the room, "Is there a family member or someone we can contact for, " the nurse glanced at a chart, "Treenie Noi and Branwen Zeigman?"
Chad was relieved, nothing was wrong with Venus. At the same time, Chris jumped up, "Branwen? What's wrong with her?"
"Is there someone I can contact?"
"Yes, Treenie's parents, but I'm afraid Branwen has no family nearby, nor does Psy-er Venus."
"Oh dear..." the nurse mumbled, "Alright so Treenie's parents?" Mrs. Dinsmore nodded.
"What's wrong with Branwen?" Chris asked again.
The nurse sighed, "She held her breath for a very long time, she's having resperatory problems." No matter how much Chris questioned that, it was all the nurse would say: resperatory problems.
"So Venus is okay?" Chad asked.
"Yes, just a little wet, cold, and tired. She's a little disoriented, but she'll be alright." Chad smiled.
"What about Treenie?" Matt asked in small voice.
The nurse looked at him for a moment, "Are you family?"
"Well, no."
"Then sorry, I can't give out that information." The nurse turned and walked away.
******************
Venus walked out into the waitning room and was met with 4 intent pairs of eyes. "Venus!" Chad slowly rose and let her sit down in his chair. Venus smiled, it was good to see Chad, Matt, Chris, and even Mrs. Dinsmore. Venus didn't like hospitals and she had been kind of freaked.
"What happened to Branwen? She was fine..." Chris asked. Matt, Chad, and Mrs. Dinsmore looked expectantly at Venus.
"All I know is that she passed out in the ambulance."
"And Treenie?" That was Matt.
"They rushed her to the ER as soon as we got here."
"And you? Are YOU okay?" Venus smiled and nodded at Chad.
Suddenly Treenie's mom and dad ran in, pulling her little brother behind them. They said something to the woman behind the desk and a minute later a nurse appeared and took them down the hall towards the ER. Matt jumped up and began to follow them. "Family?" the nurse asked him. Matt nodded and went down the hall.
"Friends of Branwen Zeigman?" Another nurse asked them. Everyone nodded. "Right this way." The nurse lead them down a looooong hall and into a room. Venus gasped. Branwen was hooked up to a huge machine. "You can all stay for five minutes, but then 3 of you have to leave." The nurse left, and everyone stared at Branwen.
Branwen moaned and regained consciousness for the fourth time. Her eyes widened as she saw everyone. They ran forward and Venus, Matt, and Chris hugged her around the tubes. Mrs. Dinsmore just stood in the back of the room and smiled. Her star athlete would be fine.
*********************
Matt saw Treenie and was relieved to see she was awake. She was doped up, but awake. He was only allowed to see her for a few minutes, but he was so happy she was okay. He and her family left, leaving only the doctor and Kyrria in Treenie's room.
The doctor put his hand on Kyrria's shoulder, "You owe this girl your life." he said, and left. Treenie smiled at Kyrria, and this time Kyrria smiled back. Then she sat down next to Treenie's bed. She pulled the vampire book Treenie had left in her locker out of her pocket, opened it up to the marked page, and began to read it out loud. Treenie smiled. Yep, Kyrria deffinately had best friend potential.
