Andromenda Scouts- Branwen's Story

Okay, I know I've changed this about 5 times, but bear with me please!

As Branwen walked down the hall, a stupid freshman bumped into her. She yelled and started to chase after him, but stopped short when someone called out her name, "Branwen! Branwen wait up!" She shuddered, it was Nick's voice. She hated him.

"What do YOU want?"

"Can I talk to you?"

"What do you think we're doing?"

"Branwen, I'm serious. I really need to talk to you about something."

"Okay, okay, fine!" She led him over to a bench outside of school and sat down. "Okay, what? And hurry, I have better things to do than hang out with you."

Nick gave her a LOOK, "Branwen, I can't talk about this here."

"Then why were you so insistent on talking to me if you can't?"

"How about you meet me at the pizza place at 7?"

"How about no?" "Just be there, I mean it."

"Fine. 5 minutes, then I'm gone." She walked away, just as Venus Psyche ran towards them.

"What are you doing with my boyfriend? Get away from him you...you...loser...hey, great shirt! I love it!"

"Right. Later!" Branwen turned, and was walking away as Nick was explaining to Venus.

"But...but...she was making passes at me! I didn't do anything! She is such a _________" Nick said an inappropriate word. Branwen sloooooowly turned,

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me you ______" Branwen ran towards him, fists flying, until someone pulled her away from Nick. It was Matt, her best friend. She shot daggers at Nick with her eyes as Matt pulled her away, smiling, satisfied that Nick's nose was bleeding. Her smiled widened. Maybe it was broken? Then she looked at Matt.

"What did you do that for?"

"The last time you beat him up he was in the Emergency Room and had a rather 'sensitive' operation, or retrieval, whatever you want to call it." Branwen smiled, remembering, then she rolled her eyes and he walked her home.

Later....Branwen checked the clock, ten minutes to 7. She threw on a lavendar sweater, flared jeans with embroidered butterflies on the pockets (hence Matt's nickname-butterfly butt), and brushed her sandy blonde hair. Then she grabbed her purse and walked out the door and to the pizza parlor. There was no one for her to say goodbye to, she lived alone. Her parents had died a few years ago, but some relative somewhere in the world sent her money all the time, and lots of it, but she had never met them, that she knew of...

Branwen opened the door to the pizza parlor and entered just some girl was leaving. She tripped and bumped into Branwen, knocking her over. "Watch it! OOOOHHHHH you tore my jeans you stupid klutz!" Branwen yelled, pointing to the small rip near the bottom of her jeans.

"ImsorryImsorryImsorryImsorry!" The girl said wincing, as if waiting for more insults. When there were no more, she opened her eyes and saw Branwen looking at her with a weird look on her face,

"What's wrong with you?"

"Nothing, nothing. I'm new here and I want to fit in, but well, look at these long legs. YOU try to walk with them!"

"No thanks. Are YOU okay?"

"Yeah, just a few bumps and bruises. No broken bones like usual. I'm Treenie by the way."

"Hi Treenie, I'm Branwen. I guess it was sort of my fault to. Want to go in? I'll buy you a coke."

"Sure thanks, cherry if you please, and diet. Have to keep the figure slim and trim!"

"Sure, whatever. Are you always so perky?"

"Pretty much! That's what everyone says!"

"Branwen!" Nick ran up to her, grabbed her arm, and pulled her into a corner. "Listen, I need to ask you something. You know Chaz? Oh well, even if you don't, he really likes you!"

"And you couldn't tell me this 3 hours earlier because...?"

"Because he's coming here tonight, he wants to meet you."

"How can he like me if he's never met me?"

"Well..."Nick blushed, he was secretly in love with Branwen, "I told him about you."

"Super...Can I go back to my table now?" She noticed Treenie was crying. She walked over, "Treenie, what's wrong?"

"You left me all alone! I was lonely!"

"Uuuuhhh sorry?"

Treenie looked at Nick, "Who's the hottie?" Branwen noticed Venus walking in the door.

"His name is Nick. Why don't you go talk to him? He's a chick magnet, so don't be afraid to be 'friendly' with him." Branwen smiled.

"Okay! Be right back!" Treenie ran over to Nick. They talked for a minute, Venus hadn't noticed.

"Hey Venus! Did you and Nick break up? Agree to see other people?"

"No...."

"Then who's the attractive blonde hanging all over him?"

"WHAT?! I'll kill him! Thanks a lot Branwen, you're a real pal!" She rushed over to where Nick and Treenie were talking. "I know, I know..." Branwen muttered.

Venus yelled something unrepeatable then said, "And who might you be?"

"Hi, I'm Treenie Noi!" Treenie replied in perky tone with a little head bob.

"Well I'm Venus Psyche and that happens to be my boyfriend's lap you are sitting on!"

"Really? He said he didn't have a-"

Nick clapped a hand over Treenie's mouth."A flexible relationship! I am taken! Treenie, I told you! Get off of me!" Nick interjected and threw Treenie on the floor. Treenie began to cry.

Branwen walked over. "Nick, I knew you were mean and horrible, but making girls cry? You heartless pig! Have you no feelings? At all?"

"Yeah Nick, what kind of a guy are you?" Venus asked.

"I'm your guy babycakes. You know that. SHE was flirting with me!"

"Sure. I really believe you."

"Well she was! You know I wouldn't look at any other girl but you sweetums." Nick jumped up and kissed her.

"Well...okay, I forgive you." Venus led Nick over into a corner and....you know.

"What a jerk!" Branwen said.

"I..sob..I know that now. What a meanie!" Treenie was still crying. They looked at Nick and Venus.

"Oh Nick, you are such a good kisser!"

"Oh Venus, so are you!"

"Oh my lunch!" That was Branwen's contribution. "So Treenie. Where did you move from?"

"I'm from out of town!"

"Really?" Branwen's voice oozed with sarcasm. Treenie didn't notice.

"Yes Yes Yes! Who's that cute guy over there?"

"That's my friend Matt. He's single. He needs a girlfriend. Go talk to him!"

"Sure! Okay!" Treenie went over to Matt. He extended a hand and she slapped him five. She talked to him, head bobbing, for awhile.

Branwen went over to Nick. "So where's mystery man? I said I'd stay 5 minutes, it's been 10. I'm outta here!"

"Wait Wait Wait! There he is!" Nick pointed to a cute guy walking in the door. He ran over to him, "Chaz, this is Branwen. Branwen, this is Chaz."

"Hi."

"Hi."

"What's up Branwen?"

"Nothing, what's up Chaz?"

"Nothing."

"Well, I'll leave you two to talk!" Nick walked back over to Venus.

"Where were you Nick? I was lonely. I felt to helpless with my weak femanine little mind." Venus was lying of course, she just wanted Nick to feel bad.

Chaz was so boring. He wouldn't stop talking about himself. Branwen looked at Matt and Treenie. They were hitting it off. Branwen looked at Chaz, who hadn't noticed she wasn't paying attention to him. She smiled and nodded a couple of times. She hated Nick even more now. He was such a jerk, setting her up with this guy. She stared daggers at him. "So want to go to the big dance with me Branwen?" Chaz asked suddenly.

Branwen almost spat out her coke. "Excuse me? What did you say?"

"Want to go to the dance with me?"

"Ohhhhh. Ummmm sure. Why not."

"Great, pick you up at 8. I really have to go. See ya!"

"Yeah, see ya." Branwen called after him weakly. Why oh why had she accepted his invitation. She didn't like him. She didn't want to go anywhere with him. She hated nick EVEN more.

"Guess what! Matt asked me to the dance!" Treenie exclaimed, running over to Branwen. "Did whatshisface ask you?"

"Chaz? Yeah..."

"Great! Want to go shopping for a dress with me?"

"Sure, why not."

"Great! See you tomorrow at 11?"

"Yeah, okay." Treenie left. Then Matt left. Then Venus left. Branwen just sat there sulking. 'Wait a minute! Did Treenie say dress?! AAAHHHH oh no!' Branwen got up and left, running home to her apartment.

The doorbell rang at 11:15. Treenie was late, but Branwen didn't mind. She was in no hurry to buy a...ugh dress. Treenie drove them to the mall and they started walking around. Treenie found a pink dress right away. The color of it burned Branwen's eyes, she hated pink, but not as much as she hated Nick. 'EWWWWW' Branwen thought, looking at the flourescent pink. After a moment, Branwen spotted a short little spaghetti strap number with butterflys on the straps. 'Thank god they aren't on the butt.' Branwen thought, thinking of Matt. "Wow! You would look so totally great in that!" Treenie squealed with excitement. Treenie's dress was a light pink strapless short dress, shorter, but not by much, than Branwen's. They went into the fitting room and tried them on. Then they bought them.

Walking out of the store, they ran into Chris. Branwen didn't like Chris (surprise, surprise). It wasn't that he wasn't nice, he was just...Branwen couldn't explain, but there was just something about him...

"Hey gals, what did you buy?" Chris asked, big smile on his face.

"We bought dresses for the dance!" Treenie said.

Chris's face fell for a split second, then he smiled again, but it was a fake smile. "Oh, so you're going? That's cool."

"Yeah...well gotta go!" Branwen pulled Treenie away. Chris had been nice enough, but she just didn't like him. She didn't know what there wasn't to like. Chris was tall and cute with sandy blonde hair and blue eyes, and he was really nice, the total opposite of Nick (whom she hated). She just didn't like Chris.

It was Friday, the day of the dance. The week had been uneventful and boring (that's why an entire week was skipped in this story). Branwen changed into her dress and Chaz rang the doorbell a few minutes later. "Wow! You look...wow!"

"Thanks. You aren't so bad yourself." Chaz took her arm and led her to his car. He kept inching closer to her as he drove, but Branwen inched away. They got to school and went inside. The gym was decorated beautifully. She waved to Matt and Treenie, who were slow dancing together to a fast paced song. Branwen and Chaz began to dance.

After awhile, Nick came over to them when they were at the refreshment table. "Hey Chaz, how's it going?"

"Great!" Chaz exclaimed, then he mumbled, "Have that money ready!"

"What was that?" Branwen asked.

"Oh nothing."

"WHAT DID YOU SAY CHAZ? SOMETHING ABOUT MONEY?" she raised her voice.

"Uhhhh no."

Branwen looked at Nick, "Tell me!"

"No"

"Do you want me to beat you up again Nick? Is that what you want?"

"No"

"Then tell me!"

"It was nothing Branwen." Branwen grabbed Nick by his collar, "Do you want to tell me?"

"Okay okay! See, I bet Chaz that he and you would...you know."

"How much?"

"Ummmm" Branwen grabbed him again, "How much?"

"$20" She looked at them, "Chaz, am I a bet? AM I A STUPID BET?"

Chaz looked away, "Yeah. Branwen, I never liked you. You had a good look, we were a sinch to win King and Queen. Besides, I could always use extra cash."

Branwen narrowed her eyes at him and opened her mouth just as the band stopped playing. The principal ran up on stage to announce the King and Queen of Fall Fling. "Hope you've all had a great time tonight! The winners are Branwen Zeigler and Chaz Hodgkis! Come on up on stage guys." Chaz offered Branwen his arm, "Shall we?"

"Don't touch me!" she hissed, but walked up the stairs and onstage. They were crowned, and then Chaz was asked to make a speech. He went on and on about himself and how happy he was. Finally, he gave the microphone to Branwen. She said some very nasty things to him, then threw the microphone at him. He looked at her, stunned, then, into the microphone he said she was ugly, and a loser and then he called her some inappropriate names and started telling lies about her, saying well...not nice things.

Branwen looked at him, hurt by his words. "Go to hell!" she screamed and flung herself at him. She knocked him to the ground and pummeled him, slamming his face repeatedly into the stage floor. The principal did nothing, he was enjoying the fight. Leaning over to the shop teacher he whispered, "Ten bucks on Branwen." After a few minutes Branwen stopped, stood up, brushed off her dress, and said,

"There Chaz. Now you can get your $20 bucks. You DID get a piece of me tonight!" She ran off the stage and through the crowd towards the door.

"Branwen!" Chaz called weakly, "Your crown!"

"Oh I've got a great idea what you can do with it! Can you do it yourself, or do you need assistance?" She ran out the door and down the hall. Treenie and Matt ran out after her.

Chris jumped up onstage, where Chaz had finally managed to stand up. "You jerk! How could you do that to Branwen?"

"What do you care?"

"Oh, I care. I care a lot!" Then Chris shoved him back down and started punching him. Nick pulled him away, and Chris punched Nick. "That was for Branwen!" Then Chris ran offstage and out the door.

Chris ran out into the hall looking left and right. He spotted not Treenie, but Treenie's dress. The bright pink was like a signal flag. He ran over to her, "Where's Branwen?" he asked.

"She's over there. Matt's talking to her. Isn't Matt a great guy?" Treenie pointed to a small alcove.

"Is she okay?"

"No, why do you care?"

"Can you keep a secret?"

"Of course!"

"I have liked Branwen since we were like 5 and she threw mud at me because I called her a dork."

"Really?! Did you know she...what's the word...depises you?"

"It's despises, and yes I know. But I don't care, I have to talk to her." With that, Chris walked over to Branwen and Matt.

Branwen was sitting in the corner with her knees pulled up to her face. She looked up and saw Chris, "What are YOU doing here?"

"Can I talk to you?"

"I guess..." Chris looked at Matt for a moment.

"Oh!" Matt finally realized that he wanted them to be alone and got up and left. He walked over to Treenie, "Why would he care about her?"

"He's liked her for years! OOPS!" Treenie clasped her hands over her mouth, "I wasn't supposed to tell!"

"Are you okay?" Chris asked.

"Yeah, I guess. Nick is such a dillreed!"

"No kidding." Chris put his arm around her shoulders, "You sure you're alright?"

"YES! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU?!"

"Alright alright. Branwen, I need to tell you something."

"Okay, shoot."

"I...ummmm...I...er I-"

Just then the door opened, and Venus ran out. "Branwen I am SO sorry!" Branwen rolled her eyes,

"Thanks Venus..." Venus was so dramatic.

"AAAAGHHH!" Chris yelled. He had finally gotten the opportunity to talk to Branwen and Venus had spoiled it!

"Hey Chris, you really did a good job beating up Nick! He's bleeding all over the place!" Venus exclaimed.

"You...you beat him up?!"

"Yeah..." Chris blushed.

"Oh, I am so through with Nick. I'm my own woman now!" Venus yelled, thinking someone might care. No one did, except Treenie.

"Go Venus! Go Venus!" Treenie was cheering. Everyone stared at her. "Whaaaaat? Oooookay, whatever!" Treenie bobbed her head.

"You beat Nick up? Good for you, I never thought you would do that!" Branwen said again.

"Yeah well...he was totally trashing you. I couldn't let him do that, Chaz either."

Branwen stared at Chris, "You actually care?"

"Yeah, I do. I care a lot...Branwen, I love you."

"Whaaaaa-"

"Kiss her! Kiss her!Make out! Make out!" Treenie was cheering again. Branwen was too deeply in shock to hurt Treenie, so Venus did it for her.

"Would you shut up dillreed?!" Venus smacked her one.

That surprised Branwen even more. 'Maybe I was wrong. Maybe Venus isn't all bad.' Branwen thought, then saw Venus checking her hair in the mirror, 'Then again maybe not....' Branwen thought again. Chris was staring at her and Branwen felt a little strange. How could he like her? She had never been nice to him. Still, he liked her. "Chris, can you take me home?" Branwen asked him.

"Sure!" Chris said, and, arms around each other, Branwen and Chris walked out to the parking lot together.
