Chapter 4
"That was the best party I've ever been to," said Hope.
"Yeah. It helps that the hottest guys in America were there. And I'm NOT
talking about Chris," said Beatrice. Dolly sighed.
"Did you see Taylors board shorts. KAHKI! I almost fainted!"
"But when we played, I don't know, I felt so . . . alive," said Bea.
"I think I know what you mean. It's like you could run a million miles
and not get tired," responded Dolly.
"Exactly," said Hope. "Only now I'm tired beyond comprehension!" she
said
, and collapsed on the bed.
"Ditto," said Dolly as she slumped on the floor.
"Double ditto," said Beatrice and she fell into a chair.
"So, your Birthday's coming up, Hope. What do you want to do for your
party?" she asked.
"Birthday?! Oh, no! I was supposed to go to my cousins birthday party
tonight! I gotta book it. See you later," rushed Hope, as she ran out
the
door.
"Ok, well then, Beatrice, you wanna spend the night? It's spring break!"
Dolly exclaimed.
"Sure! Lemme just call my mom," said Beatrice. As Bea went to go call
her
mom, Dolly looked at her bulletin board. In the center was a 8x10
picture
of Hanson. She lifted her fingertips up to the picture of Taylor.
"Yeah," she said softly, "see you later."

"Geez, I've never been so tired after a gig!" said Ike.
"But it was the most fun I've had playing before," said Zac.
"That's because we had company this time," said Taylor. "Those girls can
really play!" he exclaimed.
"Well, I'm hittin' the sack. I want to be revived for tomorrow," said
Zac.
"Goodnight," he called out as he went upstairs, his combat boots
clomping
on the ground.
"Now that the young 'uns are out of earshot," said Ike in a fake country
accent, "what did you think of the party?"
"I had a lot of fun. Dolly knew every note of every song as well as I
did," said Taylor.
"Yeah, I know. Its kind of scary in a way. They're like female versions
of us" said Ike.
"It is kind of weird. Hey, I've been writing a song about it," said Tay.
"You were?! When?!" Ike asked.
"That day we first met, I got an idea for a tune. And then over these
past few days I've been working on some words," said Tay.
"Well, what are you waiting for?! Lets hear it!" exclaimed Ike. He
followed Tay up to his room. Tay turned on his key board and played a
soft melody.
" Girl, I feel, like we're meant to be
You fill an empty space.
I see your picture in my mind
and sigh when I see your face
and oooohhhh
we belong together
It's plain to see
we were meant to be
now and forever"
Sang Tay in a sweet, low voice.
"Whoa! That's deep, Tay. How did you come up with that?" asked Ike.
Tay turned red, "I don't know. It just . . .. came to me," he replied.
"We should tell the girls about this. We could all play it together. We
can add a female part that one of the girls could sing," said Ike.
"Cool idea," said Tay. He looked at the clock. "It's too late right
now,"
said Tay.
"Tomorrow morning, we can pay a visit to our female counterparts," said
Ike.
"Great. Well, then I guess I'll go to sleep now," said Tay.
" 'K. Goodnight," said Ike as he walked out the door.
" 'Night," said Tay. Then he turned off his keyboard and lay down in
bed,
thinking about the day.

"Beatrice, Wake up! I just had an inspiration for a song! Get up you
lazy
bum!" said Dolly , prodding her friend Beatrice awake.
"Mmmph. I'm awake," said Beatrice in a groggy voice.
Dolly. So the girls got
ready. Then Dolly and Beatrice tip-toed down the stairs to her garage.
Dolly plugged in her keyboard and turned it on. She played a few notes
and settled on the key of C.
"I had a dream last night. We were playing this really nice song in it,"
Dolly said. She got a far-away look in her eyes as she remembered the
dream.
"We were playing music with Hanson. But in the middle of the song we
suddenly stopped and started playing this song," said Dolly.
"Lets hear it!" said Beatrice.
"Let me figure out how to play the tune first," Dolly said. She played a
few more notes on her keyboard, then played a few scales.
"Okay, I think I have it figured out," said Dolly. She played a simple,
but beautiful melody. Then she began to sing.
* * * * *
"Sssh. Listen," said Tay. He, Ike, and Zac were at Dolly's garage door.
She had her back to them, and she was playing something on her keyboard.
"Hey! Let me hear!" said Zac. Ike and Tay shushed him, and then listened
to the clear melody and crystal voice.
" I feel
like I'm one soul split in half
I cant rest 'till I've found you
And 'till then no time has past
Because I'm missing you
So pleeeeeeeeaaaaaase
Come back so we'll be together
Can't you see
the pain in me
Oh we could last forever"
The voice rang out clear and still. Beatrice, not noticing the Hansons,
clapped slowly. Then she said,
"Wow! That's your best song yet! That was amazing!"
Taylor stepped into the garage and spoke softly.
"That was beautiful. You have a gorgeous voice."
Dolly jumped at the sound of his voice.
"Geez. Don't scare me like that! That's the second time you guys have
snuck up on me!" she said in a shaky voice. Then in a small, soft voice,
"You really like my song?"
"Like it!" exclaimed Ike "We love it! Its fantastic!"
Dolly turned red. "Thanks" then she composed herself. "What brings you
guys here?" she asked.
"Well, Tay here wrote a song yesterday," said Ike.
"Just one verse of it. Here. Look at the music and tell us what you
think," he said, handing Dolly the music. Dolly hummed the tune of his
song.
"You know, this is a lot like the song I just wrote. I could modify a
bit
of the verse I made up and it would fit this perfectly," she hummed a
little more. "Weird. In fact, Its almost the exact same tune!" she said.
Tay smiled.
"Maybe we share a brain," he said jokingly.
"Oh, so that's what happened," said Ike. Dolly and Tay groaned. Then Tay
said,
"Wait. Let me modify my verse a bit. Yours is perfect," Dolly blushed.
"Not really," Tay took his music.
"Could you play the music for your song? I just need to change a few of
these notes," said Tay.
"Sure," answered Dolly. She stepped up to her keyboard and slowly played
the melody.
"Great! Now my verse fits yours!" Tay said.
"Cool. So, lets play it," said Ike.
"We've got to get Hope over here first," said Bea. "I'll go call her.
Why
don't you guys go bring over your instruments in the mean time?" she
said.
"Then we can all jam together," said Dolly.
"Ok, we'll be right back," said Zac. As they stepped out of the garage,
Dolly yelled in a hillbilly voice,
"Y'all come back now, y'hear?"
Ike, Tay, and Zac grinned and went into their house to get their
instruments. Dolly and Bea ran inside her house to call Hope. They
almost
ran into Doll's dad.
"Morning. Where's the fire?" he said.
"Can't talk now gotta call Hope explain later bye!" Dolly called out in
a
rush as she as she ran up to her room. Dolly's dad shook his head as he
walked into the kitchen. Dolly's mom was making tea. She turned to her
husband.
"Morning. What's the matter?" she asked.
"All this band stuff. I don't like it," he said.
"Don't worry about it. I'm sure it's just a hobby," she said.
"What if it's not?" he asked. "What if she's actually dreaming of
becoming a rock star?"
"Then if I know her, she will," she patted Dolly's dad on the back.
"Don't worry hon. I'm sure she can be a scientist on the side." Then the
parents sat down to eat.
