Chapter 3

I woke up with a pounding headache. I looked around. Where was I? On the ground was the only thing I knew for sure. I sat up. I was still in my school uniform, only with hay stuck all over the tanktop and skirt. Hay? Yes, there was hay all over the ground. And animals. Birds and wolves and raccoons and all sorts of other animals. I saw Josh, Logan, and Emily spread out around the floor. Josh was already Sitting up, but Logan and Emily were still out cold. “Josh? Where are we?” I asked, standing up. I felt dizzy and had to sit back down. “I’m not sure. A farm or something?” he guessed. Just then Emily and Logan both woke up at the same time. They Looked around, confused. “What happened?” Logan asked, getting up. I shrugged. Then we heard voices. A group of five kids entered. They stopped When they saw us. “Who are you?” one blond girl demanded. “And why are you in my barn?” a dark-skinned girl added. “We’re not really too sure ourselves,” Emily answered, standing up. I examined them closely and then realized who they were. I looked over at Josh, Emily, and Logan. They must have realized, too. “So, who are you?” the blond girl repeated. “Well, I’m Josh. And this is my sister Kathy, and our cousins Logan and Emily,” Josh replied, still mystified. The boy with the brown hair nodded. “I’m Jake. And this is Marco, Cassie, Rachel, and A-Phillip.” I raised my eyebrows when he said ‘Phillip’. I’ve never heard of a Phillip in the Animorphs. I looked over at Emily, whose mouth was hanging open. Logan’s eyes were really wide. And Josh was biting his lip, probably trying to think of what to say. I studied Phillip really close. He looked an awful lot like…wait! Yes, it was! Uncle Ax! Maybe it’s Uncle Ax in human morph! “Ax?” I blurted out. The Animorphs all looked at me, shocked. “How’d you…?” Marco started, but trailed off. “Who-who’s Ax?” Cassie stuttered. “Prince Jake, I must speak to you alone,” Ax-or Phillip-asked Jake. Jake nodded, not taking his eyes off us. “Don’t call me ‘prince’,” I heard him say as they walked out of the barn. The others just looked at Emily, Josh, Logan, and I. I fiddled with my hair uncomfortably, twirling it around my finger. A few seconds later Jake came back, looking very pale, with Ax right behind him. “He must know,” Josh whispered. I nodded. “So, uh, exactly what year did you guys come from?” Jake asked us. The Animorphs looked at him strangely. “2015,” Logan answered, looking down at the ground. The Animorphs looked confused and shocked. “What?” Marco exclaimed. “How?” Cassie asked. I looked at them. “I guess we’re your kids…in the future.”
