“So, what am I like in the future?” Rachel asked me as we walked to her house. I smiled. “Probably like you are now. Some strange mix of a warrior, model, and shop-aholic?” I asked her. She smiled that supermodel smile I always see. “You just totally described me,” she laughed. “What about Tobias?” she asked me. “He became a human nothlit and married you. But then the Ellimist gave him back his morphing powers,” I replied, looking around. I noticed how strange-looking the houses were. The had a triangle-top! It was humorous! Then something went by. “What was that?!” I cried. Rachel looked at me oddly. “What? That? The car?” she asked, confused. “That was a car?” I asked incredulously. “Yeah,” Rachel replied slowly. “Don’t they have cars where you live?” she asked. “Yes, but our cars fly, not roll on wheels,” I said, shivering. It was getting cooler outside and all I had was a tanktop and skirt with knee socks. Not very good. Rachel must have noticed me shivering. “You cold?” she asked. I nodded. “Well, you know what this calls for,” she said, getting a funny look in her eyes. Strange enough, I knew. “Mall break!” she shouted, swinging me towards the mall. Some things never change.
We came back from the mall with four bulging bags full of clothes for me, Josh, Emily, and Logan. She was going to bring Josh, Logan, and Emily’s bags to the meeting tomorrow. We took a strange yellow car called a ‘taxi’ to Rachel’s house. When we arrived, she paid the driver with green pieces of paper, and rang the doorbell to her house. The door flew open. A little girl had opened it. “Hi Rachel. Who’s she?” the little girl asked, pointing to me. “Can we come in first before you start asking questions?” Rachel said, walking in and motioning for me to follow her. She put her bags down and sat on the couch. I did the same. Then Rachel’s mother came in. “Hello Rachel. Sara, will you please shut the door?” she said to the little girl. Woah. She’s Aunt Sara? But she’s younger than me! Sara shut the door. “Who’s this?” Rachel’s mother asked, referring to me. “I’m Kathy,” I said. “Oh, hello, Kathy,” said Rachel’s mom, smiling. I smiled back. “Mom, is it okay if Kathy sleeps over tonight? There’s no school…?” Rachel asked hopefully. “Sure, that’s fine,” her mom answered. “Thanks,” I replied, not knowing what else to say. Her mother nodded. “Well, I have a case to go work on. Let me know if you need anything, okay girls?” she said, standing up. “Okay,” we answered. When her mom left, Rachel turned to me. “C’mon up to my room.” I nodded and followed her upstairs. When we got there, she threw the bags on the floor and shut the door. I looked around her room, curiously. It looked very different then mine back home. Her stairs didn’t even move! “Wanna go online?” she asked me. “You have the Internet?” I asked, surprised. “’Course,” she said, turning on some big white box. “What’s that?” I asked. “This? A computer, duh,” she said. It was? My computer was way smaller than that. And it wasn’t plain old white. I watched as she logged on. As soon as she got on, a strange computerized voice said “You’ve got mail!” She used some kind of small thing to move an arrow on the screen. “What’s that?” I couldn’t help asking. “Oh, this is called a mouse. You use it to click on icons and get into things,” she explained. My computer didn’t have that either. “Hey, looks like Jake’s on,” she said as she clicked on ‘Bball24’. She typed in ‘Hey Jake’ and pressed ‘send’. He wrote back, ‘Hi Rach. And Kathy, if you’re there’ “Hey, how come you can’t see him?” I blurted suddenly. “See him? What are you talking about?” she asked, confused. “You mean, your computer doesn’t show you the person you’re talking to?” I asked. “No…” she said slowly. I couldn’t believe it. How primitive! They chatted for awhile and I got bored. Pretty soon, Rachel’s mother yelled up, “Girls, it’s time for bed!” Rachel sighed and clicked on ‘Sign off’. I put on my new pajamas and Rachel put on hers. She lent me a sleeping bag, and I was so tired that I fell asleep before I even hit it.
