While that may give some people hope, I find more hope after I abridge that quote and just say, "All things are possible." I believe that that says it all really. I don't need to rely on anyone else, all I need to have faith in is myself. I think that many times where "God" or "Lord" is mentioned in the bible or in a quote, the word "I" or "me" or "myself" can replace it. What's better? To love Jesus? or to love yourself? This is not to say that I don't think religion is good. Sure, it's not my thing, but it gives many other people hope and what they need in order to be who they are and do what they do. Some people serve God, I simply serve my fellow man, but I don't do it in order to be a good person and get to heaven. I think people should serve and help other people because they have a burning desire to help people, and not in order to get a good word in with the big guy. I'm not saying everyone who is religious and serves other people is only doing it for there own personal afterlife wishes. But I do think that some people do that. Anyways, back to my point. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and
lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and
He shall direct your paths."
I guess my whole point is... God doesn't tell people what to do. People
tell people what to do... and more than anything, WE tell ourselves what
to do. Is that really such a bad thing? I have the power within me to do
ANYTHING that I put my mind and heart into. When people say that we are
good because we have Jesus in us or God in us, I think that they aren't
giving the human race enough credit. We are good because we have the capacity
to be good and we choose to be good. And some people choose to be bad.
And no one has the right to condemn another person for choosing to do bad.
John Steinbeck in The Grapes of Wrath says:
And I agree with that. |
