Wyoming

Cody Gunfighters, Rodeo, Wyoming Hot Roads and Hotels!

We hit the road in the early evening from Rushmore and made it as far as Gillette, Wyoming. It was a very hot ride in a van with no air conditioning and only two windows. We could not wait to get to the hotel to turn on the air conditioner!

We thought we had actually happened on a fairly decent hotel for once until Mike went to turn on that long awaited air conditioner and found a hole in the wall instead! We won't go into what it took to work the situation out with the management....suffice to say that our luck with hotels was not panning out real well!

It took us the entire next day to get through Wyoming. It is a BIG state. The mountains were a little hard on the old van. We sure did the job on the van brakes going up and down the mountains! We were smelling rubber all the way up and all the way down those mountains ! Sometimes the smell got so bad that the kids had to put towels over their noses.

After a long hot drive we got to Cody, Wyoming. In Cody, we stayed at the Buffalo Bill Resort. Our little cabin was very cozy and a welcome relief compared to the majority of hotels that we had been in up to this point.

First thing we did was to hit the pool to cool off. Mom even went swimming! (Now you know how hot it was!)

Later that night, we went downtown and saw a live gunfight. We also got tickets to see the Cody Rodeo. It was a beautiful cool summer night. Our seats were in the "Buzzards Roost". We sat right on top of where the wranglers mounted the horses and bulls. We got some great pictures!
