The Twelve Seas.

There were known the Four Seas of the Southing, which were the Seas of Mvair, the Seas of Albarsar, the Zhebech Seas and the Galian Sea. There were two seas of the Westing: the Novcosra Sea and the Tatan Contopea Seas. Of the Northing, there were four Seas: The Seas of Mitor-Un, the Sea of Kir, the Aken Seas and the East Sea of Copar. Of the Easting, there was only one Sea: the Shalor Seas. There were a number of inlets and minor seas: The Aken Sea in the Northing, which in legend was the place of Vanir, and the Zhebech Sea in the Southing, which was a minor sea of the Seas of Albarsar. The greatest sea of all was that of the Muggy Seas, in their legends the mythical middle of this world. It bordered the Southing, the Dark Westing, the Further Westing, and the Upper Westing. It gave rise to the Muggy River, which formed more or less the Great Righting Line of Muggy.

THE MIDDLE AGES 1600 to 2116

A panel from the White Shield Map Scroll. Its depicts on the left the Dark Star, the Cravalus of Indo with its Dark Star, the arrow heads of Rotama, the hammers of Miran and the Tor Stars.

The Middle Ages began with the appearance of the Dark Star- called The Sar. It brought devastating high-tides to many cities. There was no rain or floods just the violent sea rising. It was as if the Old World had ended.

The Middle Age opened with the Conquests of Red Robes in Hamb. There he re-united by conquest the whole Further Northing into the one Empire of Rotamaz. A new age of learning flourished and a new calendar was adopted. It was called the Red Robes Calendar and it quickly spread to Canap.

The 'Engished' version of the Red Robes frieze. The Red Robes Frieze commemorates the arrival of the Red Robes fleet to the lands of Rotama that were subsequently conquered. The figures to the left represent the Mahavians and the right hand figures the king of Rotama. There is great caution in the Rotama figures.

Thereafter the Middle Ages were dominated by the Great Conquests of Canap. After the defeat of the Mayhavian's in 1586, Canap adopted a system of Military Kings and elected Civic-Kings and city assemblies.

Thereafter began her six early Conquests: The Kingdom of Axabox and Babon; The Kingdom of Pebvo; the Kingdoms of Peara; the Kingdoms of Garvil and the Kingdoms of Valy-For in 1706 while Paradia became an ally in the conquest of AZ in 1682.

The City of Canap boundary remained the same for her city administration. It was in fact based on the old Kingdom. However, her conquests and territories reached into the great Abroad and nearly all the lands in Muggy. South is at the top.

Canap administered these conquests with the founding of colonies within Hedraparks- vast regional domains worked out for military security and economics. Canap now ruled over the Northing and the Far Northing, the Upper Westing, the Dark Westing and the entire Easting. Paradia became increasingly weak during this Age and finally fractured. Canap conquered the eastern-Paradian Empire in 1746. The Western Kingdoms fell nine years later.

Canap held three War Crowns; but she was denied the Southern War Crown. This was spirited away to the lands of Orcil and there grew the seed of Canapian undoing in the Southing. The rise of the peninsular was driven by the Goldron mines in the mountains and the new-found wealth that derived from them, rebellious Canapian generals, colonists and Orcileans.

The remaining events of this Age are dominated by the Wars of the Orcil Peninsular against Canap. The revolt of the colony of Caperson- the Hedrapark Capital in 1743 were the beginning of The Lolenar of 1752; and the proclaiming of the Second Empire of the Southern War Crown in 1754. The New Empire was proclaimed Lolenia.A depiction of Lolenia- the City of the Orcil peninsular and the new hope of the colonists and natives of the Far Southing.

It was a true rival of Canap and after a vigorous policy of War soon brought the entire Southing into her domain including parts of AZ and the Easting- as far as Syre. Lolenia reached her peak around 1846. And began a slow decline over the years 1946-2056. There came after 1930 another War of the Surkling and the time of the Twin-Immortals in 1934.

After this great danger, invasion arrived from the North to threaten the Muggian order of Lolenia and Canap. To meet this threat Lolenia and Canap created the Early Strato. This was an alliance held together by the three War Crowns and the two capitals. This Early-Strato was short lived and ended in the creation of the Central Empire in 1956 to hold back the advance of the Northing.

The Central Empire stretched across the whole of Muggy- from the Western Seas to the Eastern Seas. The Strato of Lolenia and Canap were protected southward behind this Military Empire. It had several Capitals in its time; Central City; Canap, Lolenia, Shorsun and at the new City of Plato- old Basenh.

The Central Empire was successful but was seriously weakened by the re-awakening of AZ in 2100 against Lolenia and Canap. It took sixteen years to re-conquer AZ, the wars left the Strato exhausted, and with a troublesome Central Empire- she held no War Crowns. Collapse came in 2056 under the invasions from Rotamaz- in the East and Valy-For in the Northing. The Central Empire was abandoned except at Plato City on the Ru-Ca-Ru High Lands. The Age ended with new conquerors in the West and in the East.

Ru Ca Ru the volcano of legend; and before it the City of Pebvo. Plato City was built on the up-lands beyond the mountain..

The Gildo

The Gildo was the mythical middle of the heavens- the mythical 'convenor' of the stars, for their nightly shining, and the eight day Vanir Cycle, were all attributed to him. The Gildo was also the emblem of the StarGazers and signified a heavenly power beyond ordinary Wilderfolk. The Realm of the Stars was theirs; a sort of land beyond the edge of their world. The Gildo was not a star that existed; but a man-bird with a warrior-helmet, wings, tail and feet of a bird. It was always depicted with the shadow of a planet cut into its right side. This was the Sar- that rogue planet of Legend. When the Righting and Lefting lines were surveyed, the positioning of the Gildo determined the true lines of the Lefting and Righting; and Stargazers were able to determine what side of the Great Righting line of Muggy they were on. It was therefore an aid to navigation and map making by placing it among the Navigation Stars.

CHAPTER ONE

The boy who held the golden column that held the strange light. And this became the enduring symbol of the legendary city of Bekand. High up on the barren plain of the Dark Westing: Far to the West, in the heart of enemy territory: And half-submerged in legends and fable. Bekand was the first of the great cities. And in those days, GreenLani, Paradia and Canap did not exist yet. But the story of Bekand was to become legend in the First Ages. Paradia was to rest her foundations on the story. And was to take her very fire of existence from the legend of Bekand. But although, they believed they had uplifted a grand myth and made it part of their own, Bekand did in fact flourish. It was not the Surs-A-Mag of the legends of the Gods: But it was as great. The story of Bekand grows out of very little. Like all great Legends, it is the un-remarkable who begin the fire that becomes the storm: And in these earliest times, chaos was supreme: Waking up from their slumber, the first descendants of Bekand, struck out from their own lands on a simple journey to find a better place in which to carve out an existence. Little did they know that their chiefs would rise to the occasion: And take them not just into danger and crises, but onward into great things that were way beyond their understanding. The journey did not end. These early descendants might have thought it did from time to time, but they slowly moved on. Driven by need, and then by visions of greater things. The time of the creation of this place by the Gods was far in the deep past of legend and myth: The time of the Gods had been eroded away by the Ice age and these people began to emerge as the successors. In the legends of the Gods, they were pure: And they, the Wilderfolk, were the amalgam of Gods and Man: And so all this was theirs. Coming from nothing as it were, the Wilderfolk were at pains to connect themselves to the Houses of the Gods: And to make their own lines that accounted for their own races, tribes and kinsfolk. The all important thing, was that they were ordained to inherit all that had been the domain of the Gods. And this was done simply, by marrying into the families of the Gods. But the Gods had to accept them first, and so there was a first.
