Ira Batease, my great grandfather claimed to the world
                                he was French.  And to "prove it" he spoke french.
                                So did most every Abenaki that came down from Canada!
                                Ira was a diabetic and use to crave sugar and milk on
                                bread.  Several of my family members are/were diabetics
                                including myself.  However, I never craved sugar and
                                milk on bread! Yuck!

                           Ira's wife, Sallie Westcott, was the daughter of Barlow Westcott
                           and wife, Lucy Smith.  Lucy was the daughter of Samuel Smith whose
                           mother, Mary, was half native american.  We are currently trying to 
                           find her ancestors.  Just as one puzzle is solved another crops up.
