“Tomorrow’s Promise”

Chapter 14
Rebecca woke up and saw Brian sleeping in the chair. He was reclined back with his arms crossed over his chest and his hat covered his face. When she looked at him, she sneered at the sight of him with the other chick. She tried to look at other objects in the room to get her mind off of him, but her eyes seemed to be drawn to Brian. Rebecca gave in and stared Brian down. Slowly Brian began to wake up. He awoke to the sight of his girlfriend sneering at him. He almost wished he hadn’t woken up.
“Um, hey…” he said sitting up. “Feeling any better?”
“A little.”
“I heard you remembered the fight.”
“Yeah.”
“So, do you still hate me?”
“I don’t know yet.”
“Oh... uh... you're going home soon!” he said trying to lighten the mood.
“That was slick Brian, really slick.”
“What was slick?”
"Trying to change the subject like that. Not your best attempt."
"I'm not changing the subject. Just making small talk."
"Ok, if you say so."
"Bec, seriously, I am truly sorry."
"Yeah... I know you are,” she said getting quiet.
"Have anything to say?" he asked standing up and walked to the foot of her bed. He started getting fidgety while she was thinking of her answer.
"Actually I do, and it might just surprise you... Can I have my ring back?"
"Huh?" He started to run back around to her, but he slipped and fell right when he got there. After a moment his hand popped up with the ring on his pinky finger.
Rebecca cracked up and took the ring off of his finger. “Now that was slick!”
He slowly stood up and rubbed his neck. “Anything for you.”
“Should I call in a doctor?” she asked still laughing.
“No, I think I’ll be ok… you know that saying ‘love hurts’? Well, it really does hurt.” He sat down in the chair and rested his chin on the bed. “So you forgive me?”
“Yeah… the way I see it is, there’s no point in dwelling on this forever. I still may be a little upset over the whole thing, but in my heart I know that it truly meant nothing, and that you just made a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes, that’s what makes us human. You know, this accident made me think about things, and it showed me that you never know what is going to happen next… I’m rambling, sorry. Not talking for six days is catching up with me.”
“Oh no, it's ok. I love hearing you talk… I missed your voice. And I know what you're talking about. I felt the same way after my heart surgery. Things don't look the same after you experience something like that, or like what you went through.”
Rebecca nodded her head and smiled at Brian. “I heard you talking. Your voice, I guess you can say, kept me company. It’s what brought me back.”
“I don’t know what I would have done if I lost you… it wouldn’t have been good though.”
“Let’s not think about that right now. I’m not going anywhere, not if I can help it.”
Brian smiled and leaned into kiss her when Kevin came barreling in. Brian sighed and said, “Kev, has anyone ever told you that your timing really sucks?”
“Sorry man, but you have to come and see this. It’s incredible.”
“Ok, I’ll be right back,” he said then followed Kevin out of the room to the back exit of the hospital. A van was waiting and Gina, Nick, Hannah, AJ, and Lauren were standing next to it. They walked to the back of the van and Nick opened it. Inside there were at least 50 different flower arrangements, cards, balloons, and letters. “What’s all of this?” Brian asked wide-eyed.
“It’s all from fans for Rebecca. They didn’t know where to send it so most of it arrived to the management’s office,” AJ said.
“You’re kidding me… they did all of this? But why?” he was so shocked he could barely find the words to speak.
“They either saw or heard about what happened at that concert. We have great fans Bri, and not all of them hate our girlfriends,” Nick said looking at Hannah and smiling.
“I’m crying, and this isn’t even for me. I’m turning into a big fat baby,” Brian said wiping the tears from his eyes.
“It’s ok. You’ve been through a lot, you deserve to cry as much as you want,” Lauren said giving him a hug. “And you couldn’t be fat if you wanted to.”
“Thanks, but how are we going to get all of this up to her?”
“Everyone grab as much as you can,” Kevin said then started taking stuff out of the van.
Kevin stood next to the van handing out the flowers and cards to everyone. Brian walked around his cousin and grabbed a giant teddy bear and a large bouquet of red roses. He tried his hardest to walk back to Rebecca's room without running into anything. When he reached her room, he placed the flowers on the floor and opened the door just letting the bear's head in.
In a cartoon voice he said, "Hey there beautiful! Can I buy you a cup of coffee?"
Rebecca looked up from the bed and laughed at the white bear asking her out. "Oh, aren't you handsome."
Brian pushed the door open and entered. He grabbed the flowers and covered his face with the bear. "I hear you have a boyfriend. I bet he's a luckiest guy in the world to have such a great girl like you. But I'm so much sexier so you can't refuse me!" Brian grabbed one of the bears arms and rubbed it up and down it's body.
Rebecca busted out laughing and gasped when she saw the flowers, "Are those for me?"
Still using the cartoon voice, "Yeah. I just hope the old lady at the end of the hall won't miss them." Brian put the bear down and sat down next to Rebecca. "I love you."
“I love you too. Where did you get this stuff?”
Brian was about to answer when Gina came in carrying more flowers and cards. “Brian Thomas Littrell get off of your ass and help. Just because she’s your girlfriend does not mean you get out of carrying stuff. Oh, hey Bec!”
Rebecca’s eyes got wide when Kevin, Nick, Hannah, Lauren, and AJ all came in with their arms full of gifts. “Where did all of this stuff come from?” she asked watching them place the flowers, stuffed animals and balloons around the room.
“From your fans,” Nick said.
“My fans?”
“Yeah, your fans, our fans… same difference,” AJ said handing her some cards and letters.
It took three more trips down to the van to get all of the stuff upstairs. Rebecca was so overwhelmed, she didn’t even know what to say. “Guys, how am I ever going to be able to thank all of these people or repay them? I can’t believe they did this for me… I’m like in shock right now.”
"Have Brian go on TRL and say thanks."
Gina snuck a rose into her shirt, "Just borrowing it since I never get stuff like this."
“Hey, I give you flowers!” Kevin said.
“Every once in a blue moon maybe.”
When their little “argument” was over Brian turned to everyone and gave them a look that said it was time for them to depart. After everyone left the room, Brian sat down on the bed next to Rebecca. "Now, where were we before Kev interrupted,” he said with a smile then leaned in and kissed her. It felt so good to kiss her again, and actually have her kiss back. “I can’t wait to get you back home.”
“I can’t wait to get back home.”
“You think anyone would get mad if I slept here with you tonight?”
“I don’t think so… it’s been a couple of days since anyone came in during the night. I don’t care anyway.”
“Good because I ain’t movin’. Scoot your cute butt over a little more.” She did as he said and he kicked his shoes off. The cuddled up together and started to read some of her get well cards.
