“Tomorrow’s Promise”

Chapter 13
Four days later Rebecca was ready to get out of that hospital. She didn’t feel great, but she felt well enough to at least go home with Brian. She still didn’t remember the fight or why she took her ring off, but she tried not to let that bother her too much. Brian was with her all of the time and everyone else stopped by constantly. Gina came to the hospital that afternoon to stay with Rebecca while Brian went home, and basically got away from the hospital for awhile.
“Hey sexy momma! How you feeling?” Gina asked sitting in the chair next to Rebecca’s bed.
“I want to go home,” she whined. “I’m sick of this.”
“Well hang in there. Only three mo' days and you can get some lovin' from Brian. I don't know why you would after what happened but if you love him…”
“What do you mean?”
“You mean you don't remember what he did? That was why you were coming over.”
“No, I don’t remember. What did he do?”
“Oh dear. I don't know if I should tell you. I mean if he didn't even tell you...” she trailed off and started looking around the room, “Screw it, I'm a bitch. Do you remember going clubbing with me and the girls? We were gonna surprise the guys.”
“I remember being with you guys, but I don't know what we were doing.”
“Oh boy! I'm just gonna be blunt. Brian got wasted and he was all over this girl. I can't remember if they kissed or not but you got P-I-S-S-E-D!!”
“He what? Oh my God...”
“I'm sorry chica. Lauren punched the girl for you though... hehe.”
She didn’t even hear what Gina said. Things started rushing back to her and her head started to spin. “Gina…” she said as tears started to burn in her eyes. “I remember him being hungover, and I remember taking care of him and making that nasty drink of yours. I was really upset, but I still felt kinda bad for him.”
“He never forgave himself and he blames all this on himself. I kinda feel sorry for the runt. And that drink isn't nasty. I kinda like it.”
“Do you know anything from the fight? Anything that was said or done?”
“Uh... I just remember getting the best sex of my life. Sorry, uh... Brian couldn't forgive himself and you called me up crying... you were like get me out of here and stuff. I'm trying to remember to give me a sec…” She stared at the floor trying to think of anything she could about what had happened. “He was just a jerk, but he was drunk on Everclear. And the chick was uglier than my dead granny. Uh… what else… oh! You told me something about Brian making a comment about her ass being in his face and he loved it or something like that.”
“Yes I would have told you. I would never keep anything like that from you. But you have to realize that when you're drunk, you really have no control on what you are doing. I thought that the chick was you at one point in time. Her ass was just in my face so I couldn't refuse.” Brian’s words rang in her ears as everything came flooding back. She put her hand up to her mouth as the tears started to fall. “Don't leave me. You walk out that door, don't even come back to me.”
“Uh oh… Bec are you ok?” Gina asked.
“I remember everything… the fight… the horrible words. Oh God…” Rebecca pulled the pillow from behind her back, buried her face in the pillow, and broke down. Her sobs were muffled but still loud enough. Gina tried to give her a hug and comfort her as best as she could. She felt like crap for being the one to tell her these things, but she deserved to know.
“I’m so sorry Bec.”
Rebecca asked for medicine from a nurse, and she was asleep about half an hour later. Gina watched TV until Brian got back. She thought she was going to die from boredom, but after another hour Brian came strolling in. He seemed happier which made Gina feel worse about what happened.
“How did everything go? Was she feeling bad?” he asked looking at his sleeping girlfriend.
“Yeah, she wasn’t feeling too great, but Brian there’s something I have to tell you.”
“What is it?”
“I told her.”
“Told her what?”
“About the night at the club and your fight.”
“No… you didn’t…”
“I had to… she wanted to know, and she had to know Brian.”
“God, Gina! I could lose her now because of you! I was going to tell her when the time was right. Don't you think she's suffering enough being stuck in this damn hospital?” he asked raising his voice.
“Don’t even start with me, she wanted to know. And don’t yell, you’ll wake her up.”
“You didn’t have to tell her!” he yelled in a whisper.
“Yeah, I did. I was being a faithful friend. Do you know what faithful means?”
“Don't go even go there. I was going to tell her, and you had no business doing it.”
“Oh really? When were you gonna tell her Brian? When is the time right to say 'I fucked up please take me back?' “
“I was going to explain everything to her when she got out of this place and settled back at home. She's not totally out of the woods yet Gina, and you know that.”
“Well hum, let's think about this... if you hadn't fucked up, she wouldn't be in this place now would she? Brian, I told her because she asked. When someone asks, the nice thing to do is answer them.”
He shook his head and tears swelled up in his eyes. “You know what? You're right... I was saying this from the very beginning, and you just confirmed it. All of this is my fault. If I hadn't fucked everything up, she wouldn't be here. If it wasn't for me, she never would have been fighting for her life. Thank you for making that even clearer for me.”
“Brian... fuck! I don't mean to rub it in your face, it's just she wanted to know.”
“Yeah... it's not your fault. I shouldn’t have blamed you, I'm sorry.”
“It's okay. I'm... I am s... screw it. You know what I am. I'm not saying those words though, not to you.”
“Now what do I do?”
“Just wait until she wakes up. It’s her move now.”
