My Trip to Japan 1999

Two years after I went to Japan the first time, I went again in 1999. Out of the two trips I think I had more fun on the second one. Unlike the first trip, I had many of my friends going on this one, and also I already knew the girl (Minako) who I was staying with. This is because Minako had come to stay with my family the previous year and we had become good friends. So now it was my turn to meet her family. Luckly for me, I got on very well with Minako's family.

The picture below is a picture of Minako, her sister (Sayoko) and myself, when we climbed MT Rokko.

While in Kobe, our group participated in many Japanese activities. A few days after we arrived in Kobe, we went to a primary school, where they also make Japanese Kimonos. The ladies there dressed all of us in the Kimonos, and we had photos taken in them.

The following photo is of all of the Leeming girls who went to Japan, dressed in kimonos.

On days when we went to the school to participate in some of the classes, we would do a japanese activity of some sort, after school. One day we participated in the Kendo club, which was lots of fun.

This photo was taken as I was getting ready to do Kendo.

On days that we didnt go to the high school, the Mikage students and the Leeming students would go to other places near Kobe. One day, we went to have a look around Osaka (the city right next to Kobe). Like much of Japan, the streets and buildings of Osaka are very close together, and the streets are also very crowded as the picture shows.

On one of the last days we were in Japan, we all participated in a tea ceremony, that was performed by some of the Mikage students. While the tea ceremony is being performed, you are suppose to sit like the following students are.

After visiting Kobe, we left our host families and travelled to Tokyo by the Bullet train. While in Japan, we went to Disneyland for a day. This was great fun as we were aloud to go around by ourselves and go on all the rides. Right at the front of disneyland there is a statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse, and you can see the castle in the background.

In the few days following Disneyland, we had a look around Tokyo. In Tokyo there is a lantern that is the largest lantern in Japan.

Beyond the lantern, there is a large row of shops. There are many souvenior shops, and it takes a long time to walk from one end to the other.

Tokyo was our last stop in Japan, and from there we came back home to Perth.
