Shave and a haircut, two bits
When I met Forest in July he had just dyed his hair black for the show we were in. It was supposed to rinse out in 20 washes, but in his case that dye was there to *stay*. He has been growing it out ever since, and had gotten really shaggy. So yesterday we both got out of work at the mall earlyish, and he decided to bite the bullet and get all the black cut off. Up until now he has always had fairly long hair. In order to get his old color back, though, he got it cut very very short. It was funny to watch his face while the nice salon lady snipped all that hair away. He looked like a cat thrown in a barrel of water. The sheer entertainment value kept me glued to my seat, watching in amusement.
The haircut is short enough for the military, I think. It looks sexy. He thinks it's terrible. I'm amused at how annoyed at it he is. Such a mean girlfriend, aren't I? But it's nice to finally see what he really looks like after all this time.
Last night I learned another set of Tae Guk forms for Tae Kwon Do. I was really having a good week with it this week, and I'm sad that I don't get to go to practice next week at all. It's just so late at night that I can't do it on the weeks I have Kirstin. I can and do practice by myself at home, however, eventually I just plain need a partner. You can only learn so much by kicking an imaginary person. Still, I'm pretty happy to hear that the club members and and I are ahead of the class. It makes me feel like all the work isn't going in the wrong direction.
Cory cracks me up. He looks about 12 years old, but really he's my age. He's small, and strong, and has way too much energy: sometimes I will turn around and there's Cory, turning back handsprings for the hell of it. He's a natural fighter, and defies gravity on a regular basis, jumping all the time. It seems he's more comfortable in the air than on the ground. He's just the opposite of me, so it's fun to learn with him. He's the more natural fighter, but when I spar I have to stop myself from using Aikido, so it becomes a thought-game. He's also in much better shape than I am, and has had fewer injuries.
On the other hand, I'm better at remembering forms and have better attention to detail on them. The mental disciplines come easy for me, but he has to struggle with them. I'm more flexible than he is, and can kick higher, and have a longer reach.
Okay, it's gooey time again.
Forest reads me books in the car. He picks them out ahead of time, and whenever we're in the car, he reads me a chapter or two. Right now he's reading me the autobiography of Jackie Chan, which is really fascinating. I'm so lucky to have such a cool boyfriend. He's feeling guilty today, because for the first time since we've been dating, he can't get me flowers. Never mind that the reason he can't get me flowers is that he has been supporting me for the past week, because some unexpected expenses cropped up. Still, he feels bad. He has sent me virtual gift flowers, trying to make me not feel neglected. Aww. As if I could feel neglected with him around.
Leeloo's eye looks terrible. She ran into the glass door of the entertainment center about a week ago, and it's still swollen shut. It's now very oozy and pink and puffy. I think perhaps I should take her to the vet.
