Being engrossed

My apologies for yet another long absence. I have been merrily moving myself from my old computer to a much happier, healthlier, FASTER new one. Voila, I am now running FTP on the new box!! I'm not really enjoying Windows 2000 much, I must admit; but I suppose it will be better when I'm used to it. I really liked the NT Windows Explorer; it was so simple, and clean. The new one is all bungled up with cheesy graphics, and takes me forever to use because I'm searching through all the frills to find the substance. I would understand if they put the frilly stuff on the Windows ME edition, which is intended for home use. I really think it's silly for people who are using their computers as a tool, however.

Ah, well, The new system makes up for its annoying OS. It has a 933 MHZ Pentium 3, and 512 MB RAM! It's pretty fast. I remember a couple of years ago we thought we were being extravagant to put 256 MB or RAM in a *server*. This is pretty cool.

Most importantly, I got new speakers, so I can listen to music again!

Okay, I'm in a strange mood today. Everything strikes me as vaguely funny at the moment, and I have no idea why.

Let's see. What's been going on?

This weekend was relatively uneventful. Saturday I worked with Forest's dad at the Store for half of the day. It will probably be my last day at the Store for the year, and oddly, I will miss it! I like the human interaction, the simple activities involved, and getting to know my soon-to-be family. I also make an excellent, decadent, brownie and hot caramel sundae. Mmmmm.

Sunday we all went to Forest's Judo tournament in Jackson. I wish my new camera had been here in time, and I would have taken some really cool photos; however, I relied on my old camera, and indeed, everything came out blurry. Actually, there's one photo of Forest throwing a guy that actually looks as though I intended it as a work of art or something. I assure you, it was naught but incompetence on my part that resulted in the neato photo. Forest did pretty well for his first outing as a judoka. He's really only a beginner, and most of the competitors had more experience than he. He ended up getting 3 matches, one of which he won!

After the tournament we went to Forest's dad's birthday dinner at Emil's. It was nice, and everyone was there. Forest and I got to see Kristin(Sean's girlfriend)'s new car. It's a Toyota Celica GT, and it's really nice inside and out. I've been drooling over small cars ever since gas prices shot through the roof, and this only made it worse! A Toyota wouldn't be my choice, though. I'd get the Honda Civic EX. If I'm getting the subcompact car, I can afford the sunroof, CD player, and zippy engine.

But I'm planning to wait until the minivan shows more signs of wear. So far all I've had to do for it is routine maintenance and tires; which is pretty good at 68,000 miles. I wish gas weren't so expensive, and then I might really enjoy driving it. I also need to do a better job of not letting junk accumulate in the van. It's so big that I can toss things in the back and forget where they are, and eventually a landslide builds up so that stuff is rattling all over when I turn or brake. It's annoying. I also tend to live out of my van too much. There is a hairbrush in there, about 30 CDs, beverage containers from my last several meals, a backpack from my last vacation, and about a million other little annoying things. I should have self-discipline. I should clean out the daily junk every day when I get home.

Unfortunately, when I get home, I tend to be tired, and stumble in without thinking about it.

The past couple of nights, though, I have been exceedingly naughty. Sunday after dinner Forest's sister Darcy, her boyfriend Josh, and our friend Angie came over to hang out. We played Trivial Persuit, generally bullshitted, and had lots of fun. Of course, when they left a bit after midnight, Forest and I were still wide awake, so we snuggled up together and played video games for a while. Next thing we knew it was nearly 2:30 and we were crawling into bed. That was a pretty short night for both of us.

Last night wasn't much better. Forest and I are used to seeing each other more than we have been, and wanted each othe 02/08/01 - This page eaten by AngelFire. Maybe I ought to move my journal archive.
