Small rewards
I think tonight I'm going to reward myself for all the paperwork I've been doing by taking Forest's suggestion and going out to testdrive some cars. Forest's brother has been talking up this Honda Civic SI that has a really high compression ratio and all the extras. It's a teeny car with a little engine that produces huge horespower. It's probably highly uneccessary for me to drive a high-performance engine that Car & Driver describes as 'scorching', but Sean's a good salesman and has made me drool over it. I gave him a ride to Grand Ledge on my lunchbreak today to pick up an engine block for his Mustang, and he pretty much raved about it the whole way. I hope he realizes that even if I bought this great Honda, there's no way I'm racing it on weekends! (That's what Sean does with his cars.)I don't think I can afford it, anyway. Not unless I borrow more money than I owe when I refinance my house... but I won't get into that. My brain is already pounding from doing so much durn math.
Last night didn't help with today's headache. Forest and I got out of class at 10, picked up his dad, and went to a sneak pre-release showing of The Patriot. It was a really good movie, probably the best I've seen so far this summer. (I can't believe Shaft got better reviews! I mean, Shaft was good, but not THAT good. The State Journal sucks.) We couldn't believe our eyes when the clock said it was 1:30 AM when we walked out of the theatre afterward. Then Forest and I still had to drive home, and didn't make it to bed until 2. This when I have to get up at 7 in the morning and go to work the next day. Smart.
But I didn't know it was an almost-3-hour movie. Honest. (Tell that to the headache monsters.)
Last night's testing went very well. Forest got his 2nd Dan promotion, which I think is great! He thought he would likely qualify at the end of the summer, but Master Kim has already asked him to bring in his registration fee and materials! Cool. I did pretty well last night, too. Master Kim pulled his usual trick of suprising me by asking for forms I learned one or two semesters ago, but we were both pleased that I remembered them all without a hitch. I only paused once, on Tae Guk 6, but didn't need any prompting to finish. Forest says my forms looked good, and I trust his judgement. Mostly, though, the fact that Master Kim asked me to perform brown belt forms made me happy. That's a pretty high compliment for me. Granted I don't know the brown belt forms yet, but it was nice to be asked.
Once again, I'm confronted with the rudeness of bank people. I've made a half dozen calls in the past two days, none of which has been promptly returned, and a few of which are still unanswered. It's as though they don't want new business, although I know that's not the case. I'm even nice to them! I'm not a bitchy customer and I don't make a lot of demands.
Then again, when I got my van I found out that the only way to get what I wanted WAS to be mean. Maybe I have to do that when signing a mortgage, too.
Think I'll go sharpen my teeth.
