A slightly better outlook on life
The van is still broken, but it turns out that my insurance company was quite prompt, and I got very good service. Just after I posted yesterday's entry, I got a call from the assessor. He was very flexible, and showed up exactly at the time we arranged. Then he set up a little computer and cut me a very large check on the spot to cover the damage, and printed a detailed estimate of the repairs and their costs for me to give to the body shop. He was very helpful, and I really appreciated it. He even called the body shop for me to get the parts ordered in advance... so I don't have to be without my van while they are on order, and being painted. The total estimate so far is around $3000. I can't believe how much bodywork costs. Thank heavens I'm insured.I had a nice time last night. I took Karen shopping for her wedding gift. I had promised her that I would get her all the little things that everyone else forgot... so of course I ended up getting her a shower head, a curtain rod, a trash can, and some pans. She was thrilled, though, it was just what she wanted. After that, we went and picked up Jim, and went to my house for dinner. It was nice and relaxing. Karen feels bad, because I was running errands for her when my van got smashed. I really don't blame her, but I understand how she feels. Yuck.
