A lovely way to spend my lunch
Today I spent my lunch hour out with Forest in a most unusual way. We drove through McDonald's to get Salad Shakers (which, by the way, are excellent) and went straight to the health club. Forest has a membership there, and I can go as his guest. We spent my lunch hour swimming around in the outdoor pool, soaking in the hot tub, and then taking a nice steamy shower. It was really nice! I appreciated the exercise, and the time outdoors; I even got little freckles on my nose instead of a sunburn. Quite an auspicious sign. We're hoping to do that quite often, now that the weather's so nice.
It took a little of the soreness out of my muscles, too, which is an added bonus. We had a pretty hard workout in class Wednesday night. Master Kim likes to demonstrate to us that we should have been practicing hard during break, so we would stay in better shape. No matter how much I try to keep things up, it seems he always manages to make me sorry I didn't work harder. Some of my favorite people are back this semester, so it promises to be a lot of fun, once we can each catch our breath.
I deigned to step on a scale for the first time in several months, since I needed an approximate weight for my tournament registration. I hate scales in general, and prefer to think of myself as being healthy, rather than weighing the right amount. Still, I'm happy to say that I am about 15 pounds lighter than I was just a few months ago! I haven't been starving myself, just working out a lot. And when I need fast food, I eat a Salad Shaker instead of a burger. It makes a pretty big difference, considering how often I eat out. I also think my regular lunches at the Store as opposed to any other restaurant have helped. I get much smaller serving sizes when I prepare things for myself at the Store, and tend to eat a single, small item, and a light dessert (bananas with about 2 tablespoons of lowfat chocolate ice cream on top is my favorite.)
This has been another scheduled-solid week for Forest, and I'm missing him a bit. Today was his first real day off since our vacation a few weeks back, and I'm touched that he took time during lunch to come see me, and is planning on spending time at Bill and Kathy's with me tonight, too. I know he really wanted a day off with nothing in particular he had to do. Then again, how often is any adult that lucky?
After Bill and Kathy's tonight I don't have anything scheduled, but I ought to do a ton of laundry, our house desperately needs to be cleaned, and I have to referee the cats all night. Leeloo hisses every time Eilonwy gets within 5 feet of her. It's lovely. Eilonwy, on the other hand, wants nothing better than to crawl into the tiniest places possible. I almost sat on her last night, because she was underneath the couch cushion. Forest reports that this morning she crawled into his bathrobe and nestled there against his ribs for quite a while. Apparently she misses her momma.
We still haven't gotten her to eat or drink anything, except for a little water and cat-milk she licked off my finger. Happily, she has used her little litter box, so we're hopeful that she is settling in somewhat. When Forest left home today, he put Leeloo in our bedroom and the bathroom, and left Eilonwy and all her things in the living room. (Leeloo loves our bed, and Eilonwy seems most comfortable hiding in the couch.) At least I can be confident that no one ate anyone else while I was at work today.
Oh, by the way, I put up Eilonwy's picture yesterday before I left work. Isn't she cute?
I'm a little concerned about money, since Eilonwy presented an unexpected vet bill, and gas has been wrecking my budget again this month as it has previously. It's costing me $40 every time I fill up the gas tank, and the van only gets about 22 miles to the gallon on average. I tend to drive at least 60 miles per day (on a slow day). I'm seriously considering trading it in and buying a smaller, more fuel efficient car. It would suck, because the van isn't worth enough to pay off what I still owe on it. I also don't have a down payment saved up. (How can I, paying for gas like this?) So I guess it's not an immediate course of action. It is, however, one I'm frankly leaning toward. I love my van, but I can't afford to commute in it at these rates.
Still, money doesn't suck as badly as it once did, and I should be grateful. And I am.
Time for a weekend of 90-degree bliss! Today is Kirstin's last day of school, and I'm hoping to do something to celebrate. (Err... her promotion to 4th grade. Yeah. I wouldn't want to celebrate the end of homework for a few months or anything. Ahem.)
