Our History

Church of Deliverance began in 1980 with a group of eight persons in the small Midwest City of Junction City, Kansas and a vision of having a place where anyone could come and be free to praise the Lord, as he or she desires. Our Doctrine is the Word of God. The first church service consisted of eight persons and was held in a member’s home.

We believe the church is a place where all should be able to come. We do not turn people away, regardless of what they have done or who they are. We do not hold their past against them. We try to create an atmosphere where they can be free from the guilt and condemnation of their past. As the Bible states, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Cor. 5:17) Therefore the sin sick, derelicts, drug addicts, gamblers, fornicators, liars, murderers and homosexuals are welcome in our services and will not be frowned upon. Here they will learn a better way: Jesus Christ!

In our services there are ex-liars, ex-homosexuals, ex-adulterers and many more who have experienced deliverance through the power of Jesus Christ and the anointed, yoke-destroying Word of God. People come from all walks of life, from all over the world seeking deliverance from the bondage of sin. We are a motley crew of people, and none of us are perfect, but we all have one thing in common: we all needed salvation through Jesus Christ. The deliverance process is continuous, therefore some may fall, but we encourage them to get up and be all that Christ would have them become.

Since our meager beginnings in 1980 the church has grown from 8 to 600 persons. The church has built three others church to accommodate it's growth over the past eighteen years. Our teaching ministry teaches the members how to walk in their deliverance through new coverts classes, bible study and ministerial training. Spiritual counseling allows the members to express their deepest concerns in a confidential atmosphere as the Bible states, “ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)In addition to the anointed praise and worship services, the church has become self-sufficient. We offer a full service day care, an accredited Christian Academy, a fully stocked bookstore and we own the entire block in which the Church of Deliverance Headquarters sits.

Our Motto is the fruit of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Long-suffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness and Temperance, against such there is no law. From their vision, Bishops Mary E. & Robert L. Pope founded the church which grew into a ministry of deliverance and created an atmosphere of freedom where young people could worship. They continue to pastor the Headquarters church and oversee four other Church"s of Deliverance in Kentucky, Texas, Georgia and South America.

What We Believe

We believe in total and complete deliverance for the whole man, in body, soul and spirit. We believe that our complete salvation and deliverance is in Christ, who met in our stead, everything required of the law through imputation. We believe, therefore that as saints (sanctified persons), we are set apart to do God's will and service. We then should strive to be the very best that we can be in this world, dedicated to God and loving the Lord with our whole mind, body and soul.
