A Rock Hound

By Carol Armbrust 3/97

Rocks from the stream
Stones from the river
Pebbles from a fast - moving brook
Piled in the corners
Stacked on the shelves
Crammed into every little nook
Polished smooth as mirrors
In big electric tumblers
Are rocks of every size 'n shade 'n color
Examined loving-ly
Displayed prominently
A Rock Hound fills his attic, house 'n cellar
Boulders from the valleys
Quartz from the mountains
Agates from a deep dark cavern
Sitting on the lawn
Strewn on the porch floor
Adorning every window dust - a - gathering
Collected from the hills
Lugged from the fields
A Rock Hound can never get enough
Jewelry and paperweights
Belt buckles and door jams
He finds a use for all his stony stuff
