Chapter 9

“Hey guys,” I said arriving at the table. I had finished getting ready and was at the restaurant wearing a long flowing violet dress.

“Hey Denia. You look absolutely stunning,” said Brian.

“Why, thank you,” I said giving him a little hug. “You look really nice too.” Everyone greeted me, except Nick. I guess, I had that coming. “Hey Nick.”

“Hi Denia,” he replied looking up. “You look nice.”

“Thanks, you do too,” I replied sitting down beside him. It was the only free seat available.

I talked with Leighanne and Kristen during dinner and they were really nice. We became friends. They were just so sweet and were interesting to talk to. We joked around a lot poking fun at the guys now and then, only to be met by teasing from them. Nick and I didn’t talk at all, and I just felt so awful inside. I wasn’t sure what to do, and if there was anything I could say.

Later on that night, I was in my hotel room getting ready for bed, when I heard a knock on the door. “Who is it?” I called. No reply. I walked over to the door with my satin PJ’s on, and looked out the peephole. It was Nick. I opened the door.

“Hey Denia.”

“Hi Nick. Do you want to come in?” I asked.

“Sure,” he replied still dressed in the clothes from dinner.

“So, what’s up?” I asked sitting down on my bed.

“Well, I’ve been laying on my bed, staring at the ceiling and thinking,” he said as he sat down in a chair across from me. I nodded. “I’ve been thinking about today and TRL and what you said on TRL.”

“Nick, I know I said there was no one, but you said no one too,” I said.

“I know, but you saw me and you knew that I was thinking about you and had my fingers crossed. I know you saw me,” said Nick.

“I did see you, and you know you are someone special to me. You also know that I meant every word of what I said this afternoon about me and relationships,” I said kneeling in front of him and cupping my hand to his cheek.

“I guess I do know, but do you know how those words stung? I’ve never met anyone like you. I never cry in front of people, nevertheless a perfect stranger. Denia, I knew from the first moment I saw you, that we were special. I knew it from the tears that rolled down our eyes. I knew it was tears that would spark a love I’d never known before. Then, when you tell me these things, it hurts that I can’t even begin something so sensational,” said Nick with glassy eyes.

“Nick, I hear you. Believe me, I hear you loud and clear. I just can’t now, you know?” I said.

“When Denia? When can you? How do I know you’re not just leading me on? How do I know that?”

“Nick, you know that I would never do that, because you know me,” I said placing his hand on my heart. “Just give me time. In time, it will happen. We will happen,” I said as I gave him a hug.
