Chapter 14

(2 Days Later)

I lay in my bed tonight thinking. Yes, I knew what I had to do. I had to break things off with Jermie and let A.J. know how I felt. I looked at the clock, 7:05. I quickly threw on some decent clothes and grabbed my car keys.I nervously pressed the doorbell to A.J.’s house. Thank God Amanda had had to leave on a last minute 2-Day trip, I couldn’t do this in front of her. Ajah answered the door.

“Hey Mommy,” she said hugging me.

“Hey Ajah, how are you doing,”

“Great,”

“Good. Where’s your Daddy?”

“Umm...I don’t know actually, I just walked through the door like a second ago, I think he’s upstairs in his room,”

“Would you go get him for me?”

“Mama could you do it? Leela is waiting in my room, and I-“

“Yeah Yeah, I guess I could do it, is he alone?”

“Yeah, I guess so”

“Okay, I’ll come and say good bye before I leave,”

“Okay, later Mom,” I walked up the stairs to A.J.’s room.” I raised my hand to knock on the door but jumped back when it was opened before I could knock.

“MaKentreey, what are you doing here?” A.J. asked. I looked at him. He was half naked and sweating, it was more than obvious what he had been doing.

“A.J., what are you doing?” I heard Amanda call.

“I’ll be back Manda” he said closing the door. I saw the panic in his eyes. “MaKentreey…”

“I-I’m sorry A.J, it’s totally my fault, I should have called or something.” I turned away from him and headed for the stairs, but he gently pulled me back in front of him.

“I’m sorry MaKentreey,”

“No A.J., it’s perfectly natural for you and her to…you know, you don’t have to explain to me,”

“I’m just…MaKentreey, what are you doing here?” he asked.

“I...I was going to tell you I changed my…never mind, seeing this made me realize I had made a mistake.”

“No, tell me what you were here to say,”

“I was going to tell you that I had changed my mind, that I was willing to let go of Jermie to be with you, because I love you so much, but this made me realize how much hurt and pain I would cause to give in to my feelings.” I confessed quickly.

“You’re giving yourself to me again?”

“A.J., did that whole last part just go in one ear and out the other? I said I was going too, but I can’t now A.J., I know she loves you, and you deserve someone better than me. I already hurt you, someone in my life that cared about me; I can’t do it to Jermie.”

“Do you love him?”

“Don’t ask me that,”

“Just answer it, it’s a yes or no question,” I took a deep breath.

“Yes, of course I love him,”

“You sound like you are trying to convince us both of that, look me in the eye and tell me you love him,” I looked into his eyes and saw the love he had for me.

“I can’t A.J.”

“Then don’t marry him, marry me dammit!”

“What?”

“You heard me,” I looked at him. I heard the door open behind us.

“What are you doing here?” Amanda asked.

“Don’t start with me, I was just leaving,”

“MaKentreey-“

“Good bye A.J.”

(A.J.’s POV)
OK, where had my life gone wrong? Maybe the day I met MaKentreey Culkin. Yeah since then my life had had a lot of up and downs. Life was great before MaKentreey made her grand reappearance. I had a loving girlfriend, I knew exactly who I wanted to marry and spend the rest of my life with, and a perfect daughter. Now my girlfriend wasn’t so lovely since she knew I still had feelings for the mother of my child, I want to spend the rest of my life with someone that’s not my girlfriend, and I’m so confused.

“Daddy did Mommy leave?” Ajah asked sitting beside me.

“Yeah baby she left”

“Hmm…she said she was coming up to say bye…did something happen?”

“No, nothing happened.”

“Daddy, are you going to marry Amanda?”

“I don’t know Ajah, it depends.”

“On what?”

“On whether or not your mother gets married”

“Daddy why won’t you just tell her how you feel,”

“I did, she doesn’t want to hurt Jermie,”

“But she’s hurting you,”

“Tell her that,”

“I don’t want a step father,”

“Do you like Jermie?”

“Well he’s okay, but I can’t see him as a father person,”

“Ajah, do you want me and your mother back together?”

“Of course, I’ve been pushing you two together for months!”

“No wonder you asked her over so much,”

“Yeah, remember that time I accidentally ask both of you to take me to the movies so we all ended up going together?”

“Uh huh, you little sneak,”

“Daddy what about Amanda?”

“I care about her, a lot, so maybe MaKentreey was right and did the right thing.”

“No Daddy, I’ve worked to hard for you to give up now. How could you marry Amanda when you love Mommy, besides you and Amanda broke up too many times to get married,”

“Your making this hard Ajah, that stubbornness of yours is coming out,”

“Mom says I get it from you,” I smiled.

“Yeah, you do,”

“Do you love her?”

“Amanda?”

“Yes,”

“I don’t know anymore,”

“What about Mom?”

“Oh yeah, of course,”

“When did you fall back in love with her,”

“I never stopped,” I said realizing it for the first time.
