(June 17, MaKentreey’s Wedding Day)
“I can’t do this Jamie, I’m not in love with him.” I said.
“Well this is just the perfect moment to mention that, the damn wedding is in 15 minutes.” Jamie said very annoyed.
“Is AJ here?” I asked.
“Duh, you asked them to sing for you, yeah, I saw him sitting out there looking like a lost puppy or something, you know you two or really ridiculous,”
“I know, but…. Jamie, what should I do, I can’t marry him,”
“Go to the one you love,”
“Oh shut up Jamie, and you know I can’t.”
“Well there are two people out there who really want you too, and one of them looks a lot like you and the other looks at you a lot.”
(A.J.’s POV)
I can’t let her do this; I should be the one up there. I watched as Jermie smiled. I was so envious of that man. I looked at my daughter; she was a beautiful flower girl. She wanted us together, I wanted us together, and MaKentreey wanted us together. So why weren’t we together? I can’t believe she had the audacity to ask us to sing at her wedding, and I couldn’t tell her I wouldn’t sing. It was too late to get her now…well maybe…”
(MaKentreey’s POV)
I took a deep breath as the boys started singing, my cue to walk out. I heard his voice and a tremble went down my spine. He knew I loved his voice, I don’t know why I asked them to sing knowing I would hear his voice. I took a quick look at him to find him starring at me. I took another breath and quickened my pace to the alter, almost dragging my father. Father kissed me and turned me over to Jermie. I looked at him, gave a fake smile, and turned to the minister.
“We are gathered her today to witness the uniting of Jermie James Miles and MaKentreey D’Jadia Culkin in holy matrimony. Who gives this woman away?”
“I do” my Father answered.
“If there anybody here who believes these two should not be wed, let them speak now or forever hold your peace.“ Ajah faked a cough, and I saw Nick hold in a laugh. Was I hoping AJ said something? Oh my God, I was. But he remained silent. The minister continued on.
“Jermie, do-“
“I do,” I gasped along with the whole Church and turned around, AJ was right in front of me.
“AJ,” I muttered.
“What are you doing AJ?” Jermie asked.
“I’m sorry Jermie, I really am, but I can’t let her marry you, I love her too much,”
“What?” Jermie asked.
“She’s in love with me too,”
Jermie turned to me. “Are you?” He asked. I couldn’t lie to him, so I just nodded.
“I’m sorry Jermie,”
“You’re sorry?!” He yelled. He lunged for AJ and his fist connected with A.J.’s jaw. I saw the look on A.J.’s face before he went wild and jumped on Jermie and punched him in the face. Howie grabbed AJ, and Drew, Jermie’s brother, grabbed him. I stood there shocked as they tried to get away and get to each other.
“MaKentreey, you bitch, how could do this?!” Jermie yelled.
“I’m sorry Jermie,”
“Fuck Jermie,” AJ said pulling me to his side.
“Mom?” Ajah asked.
“Yes?”
“Does this mean you’re not marrying Jermie?” I couldn’t help but smile at that.
“MaKentreey?” I turned to AJ. “You’re not mad are you?” I shook my head no. He smiled and kissed me. “MaKentreey, will you marry me?” He asked.
“Yes,” I said automatically.
“I mean right now”
“This very moment?”
“Why not, we have a church, all our friends are here, my Mom, your parents,”
“You okay with that Ajah?” I asked.
“Yeah,”
“Ok, let’s do it AJ.”
Epilogue
“Where are you going?” AJ asked.
“Well AJ, we have things to do tonight,” I said laughing.
“We have a honeymoon to go to, I heard you liked The Bahamas,”
“AJ, how can we go to the Bahamas at the last minute like this?”
“Last minute, we already have plane tickets and a honeymoon hotel suite booked.”
“How?”
“I kind of did it last night,”
“Well you were pretty damn confident,” I said hugging him.
“Let’s just say I was very hopeful.”
“Ajah is staying with Leela right?” I asked.
“Right, for a week,”
“I love you AJ.”
“I love you too,”
