Process

1. Work in a small group of three or four. Assign each member what he or she will be responsible for.

2. Incorporate all resources available—from the library, museum, Internet, or a documentary film you watched on PBS.
You will research history, background, and characteristics of Impressionism movement.

3. Choose two favorite Impressionist artists and two paintings of each artist. Total of four paintings will be researched and analyzed.

4. Analyze two artists’ styles and techniques, and compare and contrast their art works.

5. Write 2 page report: first page describes Impressionism and the artists; second page describes the selected paintings.

6. Create a group presentation. You may choose a method that is both creative and supportive of your knowledge (ie. a display board, art prints, hand outs, power point slides, etc..)

7. Include the following information in your group presentation:

a. What is Impressionism? What are the Impressionist Artists?
b. What characteristics do you find in Impressionist artists?
b. Who are your two favorite Impressionist artists? What are your two favorite paintings of each artist?
c. What are the subject matters and techniques used in the paintings you have chosen?
d. How would you compare and contrast two artists’ styles?
e. In what ways do you think these paintings were influenced by the Impressionism movement? Share if you found any interesting stories.
