my life
i might have the oppertunity to work at the cbc this summer. the cbc's morning show is now number one in the ratings.

hmmmm.

it would appear that i've been afflicted with the forget what to blog-bad-ness.

i thought that life was a wonderful space in which the world laughed and and people called me. call me? nah, anyway, i think tonight i'm going to talk about gender, equity and equality.

i hate that women were not allowed to work in some cultures. i can't hate the cultures, because thats not cool, in fact, i'll i can hate are actions and facts. i think that the whole adversarial idea of the battle of the sexes is so flawed and horrible. it's just perpetuates a bad situation. the facts is that in the past, women were discriminated against, and some people still suck.

i really wish that had never happened and that people were just not evil to each other? wouldn't that be good?

gee, well i think we can start.

Old world thinking like that pisses me off too. When mum and dad were together, he wouldnt let her work because he saw it as a threat to his masculinity. Hi, 5 kids, TWO INCOMES PLEASE. moron...

cbc? awesome. i'm unemployed and trained for nothing.

call you? you want me to call you? but i hate phones.....just wait till you see the blog i'm going to write tonight.

yup, it's not a battle. we're all on the same team here, people. that applies to a lot of things.

wow, chloe has 4 siblings? craziness. that would make me ultra crazy. not letting wives work isn't cool.

I definitely agree with the whole battle-of-the-sexes thing. I don't see why it even has to be an issue (I mean it does because women have a lot of disadvantages, but even if things were equal, I'm pretty sure people would still insist on defining gender roles.) The best example I've seen of non-gender specific goodness is at my church in Toronto. People just don't think about it; everybody acts how they feel like acting, does what they feel like doing and tries to be respectful of everyone else. Makes sense to me.
In response to Andre's comment on the last blog, I don't know why it is that the guys we know don't suck...possibly because we're smart enough not to spend time with people who do? I don't know, I never really considered myself a feminist until I moved out east, because I never really felt the need to be. Gender roles are big out here, and not just in my house.

Interesting. I recently decided to expand my reading material and try out a new author from the library. It was a fantasy novel with a neat premise, and I thought, "Hey, cool."
Then it turns into this pseudo-extremist-Christian male-dominated woman-hating story-stealing SHIT.
The most relevant crap it included was:
1) a line spoken by a female prostitute: "A woman's strength is in her hair, and women have no strength." Not even "A woman's strength is between her legs" or some shit. From a freakin' /female prostitute/.
2) A father's advice to a son on his wedding day: "Make every act of sex an act of revenge. Women prefer it that way."
3) The men are ALL assholes. And ALL the women LOVE them for it.

I hate to say this, but are ANY of you surprised it was written by a man?
I know there's some good male fantasy writers out there; I've read them. But just because you're a guy who creates fantasy worlds doesn't mean the men have to be assholes and the women have to love it!!

Agreed.

By the way, I'm not a Neo-Feminist myself Finbar, but well... Let's just say that a lot of the guys I've encountered here would have loved Laura's book. Some of em might even have written it. So I was a little pissed when I was typing, and I guess I came off a little strong... Guess I should hear the female perspective of all this.
