Atlanta, GA ( The Trumpet Awards Foundation announced today that TV One, the lifestyle and entertainment network for African American adults, will be its new television partner, in a multi-year agreement under which TV One will televise the Awards and its Red Carpet Show.

The TRUMPET AWARDS were created in 1993 to honor African-American achievement in diverse fields such as law, religion, politics, public service, sports and entertainment. During the past twelve years, the Trumpet Awards have honored Muhammad Ali, Nelson Manela, Kenneth Babyface Edmonds, Gordon Parks, Lena Horne, Benjamin Carson, Eldrick Tiger Woods, Bryant Gumbel, Ed Brooke, and many others.

Xernona Clayton, the creator and executive producer of the Trumpets, said, "Through the generosity and benevolence of Turner Broadcasting, we have been granted a marvelous opportunity and a great future. Turner Broadcasting offered us independence and a multi-million-dollar support system to grow, develop and expand the mission of the Trumpet Awards established thirteen years ago. We are delighted now to be working with a new and dynamic network like TV One, which so clearly shares our commitment to highlighting the tremendous contributions African-Americans make in all areas of life."

The 13th Annual Trumpet Awards, hosted by Tom Joyner and Donna Richardson, will be held in Atlanta (GA) at the Georgia World Congress Center on Monday, April 25th and taped live for broadcast on June 5th on TV One.

Among those being honored will be Nancy Wilson; Beyonce Knowles; Dick Gregory; Venus Williams; Serena Williams; Mayor Shirley Franklin; Joe Louis Dudley, Dennis Archer; Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr.; Bishop T.D. Jakes; Bishop Eddie Long; Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie;

The Honorable Michael Misick, Chief Minister from Turks & Caicos Islands; Donald Young, Jr. (young STAR award) and Father Theodore M. Hesburgh, President Emeritus of the University of Notre Dame. Launched in January 2004, TV One ( serves 20 million subscribers, offering a broad range of lifestyle and entertainment-oriented original programming, classic series, movies, fashion and music designed to entertain, inform and inspire a diverse audience of adult African American viewers.
