Representative Kevin Tracy: Good evening, I just returned from Indianapolis
where I was in the State House paging for my Psychology and Honors Government
teacher, Representative Ralph Ayres. It was a nice review for the
test over state legislatures tomorrow in 3rd block.
But something more important happened while I was there. While
running an errand for what I think was the Black Caucus Commission, I had
to stop at the Ways and Means Committee Room. Now, If you aren't in Mr.
Ayres Government Honors Class, this probably means nothing to you and you
can go look at other stuff on my web site.
But for those of you that are in his class, or want to know what true,
pure, and only partially corrupt power is, stay here.
The guy I was supposed to meet wasn't in the room yet so I invited myself
to take a seat, the leather one, of the Committee Chairman. This chair
is the chair of the late...
DORIS DOORBECKER.
Yes, that's right, I sat in The Chair of Doris. When I sat in
the chair, I remembered everything we learned about her, about how she
could move parking spaces, decided which bills get sent to the floor and
which die on the table, which legislation passes and what fails, and decided
who got re-elected by using these powers. I remembered how Mr. Ayres
sucked up to her and made her husband jealous by giving her flowers, and
I remembered how she was a god!
When I sat in that chair, I could feel her power still radiating from
it, it was truly amazing. That power was the power I mentioned earlier
and I can still feel it flowing in me, I felt it as I first saw the chair
and I still feel it from sitting in the Chair. It truly is amazing.
I hope everyone that pages for him this year will have a chance to at least
see that chair.
