Election of Aristide

*Roman Catholic priest who was influenced by Liberation Theology.

*Elected into office on December 10, 1990 by 67% of the vote in a free and fair election.

*Not long after the election the Tontons Macoute committed several gruesome murders in "protest" to the election.

*Artistide took office on February 7, 1991, but was quickly overthrown on September of that year by Dr. Roger Lafontant and the Tonton Macoute.
