The Good You Make

Hide up high by the landslide
Sirens don't make it to Heysham
This time of year empty time of day
Drain away the maze OK

No one needs to say a word
Burn the M6 and forget the world
Nothing underneath the dark sky needs to
Pull you down or kill the sound of

The good you make
It's a word you say
There are some times that you save me
It's a soundwave shape
It's a myth you break
There are some times that you save me

Digging down deep for the answers
Dropped my tears in the Cherwell
In the name of you and your whispering moves
And your point of view

No one needs to come around
I sang myself high back to town
Nothing underneath the dark sky needs to
Pull you down or kill the sound of

When the legion of plasticine men floods the sky
I hold on tight
You'll find me in one of your famous trees
It's all I need

Hey all,

Tonight, I went to see Emm Gryner tonight at the University of Windsor and it was a kick-ass show.

I had planned to go to Emm's show at the 7th House in Pontiac, MI on August 25 (my b-day) So, I was surfing the net and found the Emm page where you can "Mail Emm!" So, I thought, "What the hell" and I wrote her a letter saying "blah blah blah, I like your music, I'm coming to see you on August 25 at the 7th House and it happens to be my birthday" I purposefully wrote it would be my birthday thinking maybe she would say something at the show and wish me a happy birthday or something corny like that.

I wrote this a week before the August 25 show and I'm like, "Yeah right, she's not even gonna read this before the show" So I didn't think anything of it.

But I was really bummed, but happy because my family decided two days before my birthday that they would throw me a party at the house. I was happy because they did it but bummed that I couldn't see Emm play. Oh well...

Anyways, tonight I was right up against the barricade with my brother, Mike, so basically I had front row. After the show, we went to try and meet her and she was talking to some people and then tried to get into her dressing room but right before she opened the door to go in, we called her and asked for her autograph.

She signed my CD insert first and she asked me for my name, I said "Trish". Then, being the weirdo I am, I struck up a conversation with her and said, "I was so mad because I couldn't make it to your show at the 7th House in Pontiac on August 25 because it was my birthday and my family threw me a party." Then, she's like "YOU'RE TRICIA!!!! I asked if there was a Tricia in the audience when I played and no one answered!"

I felt soooooo bad!!! I couldn't believe she actually read that mail! Who reads their fan mail anyway? Then my brother remembered that she was half Filipino and asked her about it and we told her we were of Filipino descent and she was like, "Oh, Maligayang Pasco!" which means "Merry Christmas" in the Philippine language for all you non-Flips. That was pretty cool of her.

Anyways, it was an awesome night for me.

Later,
Trish

Subj: Emm Gryner knows *me* and dedicated a song to me!!!

Hello everyone,

This day started out good, then it got bad, then it ended up AWESOME! Okay, it was good when I went to pick up my pictures from when I met Garbage and got a picture with Shirley Manson, but it got bad when my mom was harping on me about not cleaning up while she was in the Philippines when I did! It also got bad when I went to pick up my friend, Alvin, to go to the Emm Gryner/Philosopher Kings concert, and forgot my tickets!!!!! So, we had to go all the way back to my house, which was 20 minutes away, and pick up the tickets. Then, my mom calls me and tells me my dog got loose. So, I had to go home, again, hoping my dog hadn't been squashed by a car. But when I got home, little Shaggy was okay.

Okay, back to my point. Emm Gryner played at The Loop in Windsor tonight and it was yet another awesome show. She had a guitar player this time! And she also got to play bass. It was cool at the Loop because there were all these couches to sit on but no one was on the floor! But when she came on, about 30 of us "sat" on the floor right in front of the stage. I had front row again!

Well, she played : Hello Aquarius, Phonecall 45, Summerlong, Ozzy's Crazy Train, and This Mad, but when she got to her next song is when it got cool. She sat down at her keyboard and asked for any requests and a girl said Acid and I said "Hook Machine"! and she gave me this look like (you know I can't play that song if I"m at a piano!) and winked at me. I just laughed. I just like that song and wanted her to play it. Then some other girl said "Chantal Kreviazuk!" and Emm said, "Who is that?" Everyone laughed but I forgot that she opened for Chantal before.

Anyways, she said, "I'm gonna play a song I wrote..." and right then I yelled out "Julia!" and she said, "what's that?" and I said "Julia" again. She said, "Oh you know my new songs that aren't even out yet - Fantastic! Okay, I'll play this for you, what's your name?" I said, "Tricia" and she said, "Tricia, I know you! Okay, this is for you!" It was the coolest.

She played Wisdom Bus and Acid after that.

After the show, I went to talk to her and I asked her if she got the package from Wisdombus yet but no such luck. And I had to get a CD signed for CAT!!! She was looking around for a place to write steadily and she said, let's go over here and she took me into this somewhat secluded area so we could talk. She said she was sorry for messing up "my song", but I didn't even notice. I got a picture with her and then she apologized once more, when she didn't even have to the first time!

Oh yeah, I passed out the rest of my "Public Speaking" cassettes to some of the audience. People must've thought I knew her personally because they'd ask me what her name was during the show and some people even asked if my friend Alvin and I were related to her!

Meeting Emm this time was definitely better than the last. And I got it all on tape too! It's not the best quality though because people talked too loudly! I also took pictures during the show.

Okay, I'm going to try and sleep now, but I'm sure it won't happen.

Your sort of amazing night,
Trish
