I couldn't possibly right down everything about myself, because like every human being I am complex. A vessel consisting of complicated and intricate personality traits that only I can understand. Even sometimes, I find myself confused. But I'm intrapersonally intelligent so I tend to figure it out. I'm really interested in sociology, which is lucky because I'm studying to be a social worker. I've always had an innate ability to help people get themselves out of practical and emotional problems. I'm gloating, I know. But better I gloat rather than telling you everything I hate about life. I'd rather remain more positive, because for the most part I'm pretty satisfied with life.

What am I living for right now? Music. There was a stage in my life when it wasn’t even important to me. I can’t imagine ever thinking that way now, but I did throughout high school. I didn’t really get how a song could move you. I was listening to the most shallow, meaningless and mind numbingly awful songs. Pop music adorned my collection. And not the good kind of pop that’s related to rock music. I like to think that my mind was kidnapped during high school and under society’s duress I was forced to conform and listen to bad music.

Once I left high school, everything changed. I started listening to everything I wanted to listen to. Bands I had always liked but never really been obsessed about, or even spoke about. Veruca Salt was one of these bands. I remember back in 1994/1995 we had just gotten cable and they had opened a new music station, Channel [V]. They were testing it for around a month and basically they would run the same 24 videos over and over again, non-stop. One of the videos they played was “Seether” by non other than, Veruca Salt. I remember being in love with the song, but I never really got into the band until much later. Then 1997 came around and they were touring Australia. I didn’t catch them live, cause I was only 13 but I watched their live sets on TV and was blown away. So I got “Eight Arms To Hold You” for Christmas and played the record non-stop. Then I kind of forgot about them and gradually my mind started to rot…but this rotting was only temporary.

When I left high school I had a lot of spare time on my hands, a 3 month vacation until I started university. Music became a big part of my life and it was at this time that Veruca Salt revolutionised my music collection. I was browsing through my CDs one day and re-discovered them. Then I started looking into the band on the internet and bands who were incestuously linked to the Veruca Salt family tree. From then on, my taste matured and evolved and my attitude towards music became elitist, because my music taste is better than everyone else’s. I’ll always remember this t-shirt I once saw, it read “I Hate Your Favourite Band”. It’s pretty much true, because I usually do.

Think I’m crazy, then consider this quote…

Crazy isn't being broken or swallowing a dark secret. It's you or me amplified.

I recommend reading "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides. It's a fantastic book and you can read an excerpt from the book here. There is also a synopsis and some other interesting tidbits. You should definitely read this book by my favourite author.
